Predators Selected for 2020 Winter Classic – HELL YES

Smashville, your plans for New Year’s Eve have been booked for 2020. While we’ve known for a few weeks that the Dallas Stars would be hosting the 2020 Winter Classic in the Cotton Bowl, the opponent was TBD. While fans of Central Division teams had to think their team had a chance, no one knew for sure. Well yesterday, Gary Bettman announced that your Nashville Predators would be facing off against the Stars for their first ever Winter Classic!

Obviously, this is huge news for the franchise. The Predators have now hosted the NHL Draft, the NHL All-Star Weekend, and the Stanley Cup Finals, but have never participated in the Winter Classic. If you know me, I’ve been critical of the NHL for only including a handful of teams over the year. Well it looks like the league finally listened and selected two non-traditional teams for their marquee event. I believe this a huge step forward for hockey, as they continue to find new ways to grow the game. Dallas and Nashville both have strong markets for the game and can only get better with this kind of exposure.

So what does this mean for the Preds? Well first off, can you imagine the exposure Nashville will get off of this? P.K. Subban will be an absolute star leading up to the game. It will also get players like Ekholm, Ellis, Forsberg, Arvidsson, and Johansen out in front of a national audience. A new Preds’ jersey will also be debuted, which has already been confirmed by the team. I’m not typically a jersey guy, but I’ll be purchasing one of these bad boys. Fingers crossed for a design based off the old Dixie Flyers sweaters.

I can’t tell you how unbelievably excited I am for this game. I’m already making plans to make the trip out to the Cotton Bowl. We’re already planning to do a Talking Preds podcast live from the game and probably have a meet up for all our Talking Preds/SoBros friends. It’s gonna be an absolute blast, and it’s still a year away. Make no doubt about it Preds’ fans, this is huge for the franchise. Let’s all appreciate it and have as much fun as we possibly can with is. By the way, think we can sneak a catfish on to the ice at the Cotton Bowl?

Be sure to check out the Talking Preds Podcast. New episodes almost weekly. Be sure to follow along on Twitter and Facebook for live tweeting during the games along with something new we’re trying out. For certain games, I’ll be jumping on live during intermissions, pre-game, or post-game with thoughts on the game. Love to have some good hockey discussion so follow along and let me know what you guys think.
