Here come The Eternals!
Marvel fans get ready for the next BIG THING! Ok, maybe not, but quite possibly YES.
According to Production Weekly‘s Twitter machine, the Eternals movie will move on with production August 2019 in Atlanta’s Pinewood Atlanta Studios. Reportedly, a script has been penned by Mathew and Ryan Firpo. Chloe Zhao has been slated as the director, which will be Marvel Studio’s first SOLO female director (Captain Marvel has a female CO-director).
Now with the formalities out of the way…HOLY CRAP IT’S HAPPENING.
I’ll be the first to admit to not being a hardcore reader of all things Eternals, but I am familiar with them. Most recently, the Earthly Eternals got the proverbial axe as a whole in issue #4 of the Avengers (2019). Now we all know how deaths work in comics…they don’t.
This may be the best play for Marvel writers. All they need to do is bring them back in fruition with a fall or spring event. Strike as the movie is going into pre or post-production, and run with a new ongoing series after that. Wet the whistle.
Bringing in a new team that is not X-men or Avengers is JAHENIOUS. Not only does that spread out stories and origins, but can bring stories full circle (Thanos is of the Titanos Eternals). Jack Kirby would be proud of how far Marvel Studios will take his creation. I hope he gets all the credit he deserves.
Here’s a brief history of the Eternals…
“The Eternals are a fictional species of humanity appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth.
The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended the Eternals to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants.
The Eternals were created by Jack Kirby and made their first appearance in The Eternals #1 (July 1976).”
I’ll bring you more information as it is released.
