War Dogs: Brett Ison vs. O’Shay Edwards

The history between Brett Ison and O’Shay Edwards is short but significant.

The two were paired up in Alabama where a “brute force style” tag team was needed. They’ve only had one singles bout which took place at Resolute Wrestling back in 2017. Brett won that match and the two showed sincere respect for one another.

When talking to Brett about this time in the relationship, he says the two were friends trying to propel each other to that next level:

“It was a healthy competition between homies. We pushed each other to be better and I would like to believe we both have done that. Our 2018, collectively, is something to be proud of.”

O’Shay sees things a little different:

“Imagine the Yankees/Red Sox, Steelers/Ravens, Red Wings/Rangers…mix them all up into two separate beings and that’s all you need to know. This history is violent and if I have my way I’ll end what he can’t finish.”

So, how did we get here so fast?  In all honesty…it was inevitable. We’re talking about two alphas that have the killer instinct that most don’t. “It’s like staring into a mirror,” O’Shay goes on. “Everything I do, Brett does and just as good. Something is gonna have to give.”

The two were supposed to team together at SCI: Trios not THAT long ago before circumstances dictated that didn’t happen. Instead, this healthy competition exploded into something far more at SUP: All Eyez on Me this past November. After Brett defeated Marko Stunt to become the Bonestorm Champion, O’Shay joined him with nothing but congratulatory words for The Pitbull.

This is the moment that we’ll look back on as “things boiled over” but it really wasn’t.

Brett simply had an opportunity to pounce. “Everyone has asked why? I mean, you can see and hear people losing their minds,” Brett says with a smile. He adds “I’m gonna continue to play chess while O’Shay is playing checkers.” With one elbow, Brett dropped O’Shay, ending whatever friendly competition the two had and putting everybody on notice. “I dropped big homie not once but twice with a touch. Not full force. Just a touch,” says Ison as he thinks back on that situation.

Things escalated after Brett’s successful title defense against Nick Gage. Again, the two were standing eye to eye before Sadkampf, Cabana Man Dan and Mr. Brickster joined the scuffle. The six men will square off at IWTV: Family Reunion during Mania weekend which means this Sunday’s match will not be the last time Brett and O’Shay find themselves squaring off. Add in the fact that the two nearly came to blows in the locker room after Revive Pro: Heart Shaped Box just a couple of weeks ago.

All of this adds up to guaranteed fireworks inside The Basement East on Sunday. When asked what we should expect, O’Shay’s answer is simple, “Two grown men with hard heads and harder fists coming to beat the absolute shit out of one another.” Brett’s answer was a little more calculated. “Business decisions are never meant to be personal, but I understand it becomes just that.”

Whether we knew it or not, these two have been on a collision course since the beginning. Two war dogs tired of scraps, getting closer to the ‘next level’ they’ve been chasing.

They’ve pushed each other to get here, and on Sunday, they’re gonna have to take that next step by going through one another.
