Conor McGregor Announces “Retirement”

Conor McGregor took to Twitter late Monday night/early Tuesday morning announcing that he is retiring from the sport of mixed martial arts.

Dana White was asked to comment on the announcement and said he would too if he was McGregor.

McGregor has recently been rumored to fight various opponents. The one gaining the most attention was Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. This fight was called off after McGregor refused to be a co-main event.

To me, this whole thing seems fake. McGregor is VERY successful outside of the octagon. His whisky business endeavor has proven extremely lucrative. So, I guess he could be tired of getting punched in the face when he doesn’t need the money. I still don’t buy it.

McGregor has had his share of legal troubles recently as well which could be another reason for his decision. Once again, I am not buying it.

I think details will come out and he, in fact, is not retiring – just playing the game and working for more money. Maybe his retirement from MMA opens him up for a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather? He can cash in another $200 million payday instead of fighting in the UFC for far less.

Most likely, McGregor senses his worth to the UFC isn’t what it once was so he is using this as leverage to get him more money and a headlining spot. He has repeatedly asked for a share of the company.

Let’s give this one time to play out, folks.
