Brett Ison: Kill or Be Killed (Interview)

April has already been a big month for Brett Ison. Since competing during Wrestlemania Weekend for SUP at Family Reunion, he hasn’t slowed down. The guy is still whooping ass all over the state, which will continue over the next couple of weeks. Ison has BIG TIME match ups in Tennessee/Indiana to finish out his month and I couldn’t wait to hear what was on his mind.

Mose: What are your thoughts on the ‘Family Reunion’ 6-Man Tag now that we’re a couple of weeks out?

Brett: It was definitely a moment. A moment I will never forget. I know the other five will never either. Despite the animosity on both sides, I am proud of SUP. We had up and comers, international stars, and indie stars on the show and a little DIY punk company from the South came out swinging. We were told we stole the show and had a standing ovation.

M: We had the pleasure of seeing Eddie Kingston vs. Shinjiro Otani live. How was that for you as a competitor and admitted Kington fan?

B: It was awesome to see both of those men – one being a Japanese wrestling legend, and the other being a man that is my hero in Kingston. To see him get to work with a legend and give us something different than the Mexican Death Match and Dom/Bishop’s match – that’s my top match of the week there. But getting to just sit back as a fan and watch my hero was definitely a highlight of my week. Hopefully, I will see him across the ring before this year is over.

M: You’ve got an absolute fight on your hands with JD Drake this Sunday. What’s been your preparation for this matchup?

B: Same thing as always. Kill or be killed. I know what I’m up against but that’s why I’m the most dominant figure and champion in SUP’s two years. This belt stays with me until I die on my shield and I’m nowhere near death.

M: Personally, I’m pumped for this four way down in the Scenic City on April 27. Your history with Kerry/Brick speaks for itself and Bandy is a guy that turned some heads in his SUP debut. Thoughts on this match?

B: I have wins over everyone but Brick. Destroyed Kerry in 30 seconds and beat his circus friends. The first seams to rip in the cloth that held The Carnies together happened in Tennessee – not Indiana. I already have a victory over Bandy in a 6 man tag at the SCI Trios but Brick… I am looking forward to dropping him on his head again and destroying him. Brick by Brick until I’m standing on the foundation that was ‘Brick Nation.’

M: If that isn’t enough, there’s also a Taped Fist Match on the docket coming up on May 10th at Paradigm between you and Gary Jay. This has been a match everyone has wanted. Are you excited to finally cross that name off the list?

B: Yes I am. James Drake was on my list as well. To be knocking off the names on the list and to do it in the fashion I have is something to take a step back and really look at.  Taking out the rising Marko Stunt, my first defense was against another childhood hero in B-Boy and a man I grew up watching dominate CZW and death match wrestling in Nick Gage.

Gary is a tough mother fucker with what some say is, pound for pound, the heaviest hands. I throw a mean right but my elbows are not covered and I’m looking to knock out one of the midwest MVPs.

M: Who do you enjoy fucking with more, Lane or Stoney?

B: It amuses me. The confusion in their eyes which then turns to fear. The panic in their voice. The shortness of breath when i stare. “I do this for fun.”

Brett Ison is not to be fucked with. He has nothing but fights ahead of him but you wouldn’t know it taking to him. He’s calm. He’s confident. He’s ready to kill or be killed. So goes life for The King of The Iron Elbow.

You can catch Brett defending the SUP Bonestorm Title against JD Drake on April 21 at The Basement East when SUP presents ‘Hold Your Ground.’ The fatal four way with Kerry Awful, Mr. Brickster and James Bandy goes down on April 27 at the Scenic City Showdown in Chattanooga. Finally, Brett Ison vs. Gary Jay in a Taped Fists Match goes down on May 10 in Jeffersonville, IN, when Paradigm Pro Wrestling presents ‘Live Through This.’
