Marko Stunt took the independent wrestling world by storm last summer because of equal parts high-flying ability and charming personality. Something about “Mr. Fun Size” just draws people in. Unfortunately, a leg injury put him on the sidelines for the better part of the last five months.
He surprisingly made his triumphant return to wrestling at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 last Friday night, and was gracious enough to chat with me about the experience of WrestleMania week as a whole. LFG.
Marko Stunt Interview
SK: First of all, how did the leg hold up after your first weekend back?
MS: My leg held up fine during the match! Adrenaline is a hell of a drug haha. I could definitely tell things felt weird, so I’ll have to learn how to trust myself again.
SK: Any desire to come back to Nashville and take another shot at Brett Ison and SUP’s Bonestorm Championship?
MS: Nashville will always be one of my homes. It’s close to me, and the crowd is one of the best there is! I’m obviously down to take on Brett Ison again. He’s very good, but I know that I can do better.
SK: So, how did you get involved with Joey Janela and GCW to begin with? When was that relationship born?
MS: Last July I was messaged by Brett Lauderdale asking about my availability. Originally I was booked for the show AFTER Lost In New York, which was Live Fast Die Young. The next day, he asked me about doing LINY, and that’s really where it all began. Ever since then, they’ve taken care of me like no other has really. They’ve put my name on the map and I can’t thank them enough for it.
SK: Describe the feeling of walking out from behind that curtain Friday night, and making your triumphant return to wrestling.
MS: I’ve literally never been more nervous in my life. As soon as I heard my name in the crowd, there was a big smile that popped up on my face. To get the reaction that I did was super cool. That night was very special to me.
SK: You also came away from WrestleMania week with a busted up face. Man….what happened, and what was the diagnosis?
MS: Hahaha! My face is fine now. When I did the Rana to the apron, I hit the ground, and was not anticipating Joey falling off himself. Well, when he fell off, my face just kinda bounced off the floor. Totally a freak thing, but I did break my nose and split my eye. No stitches even though i definitely could’ve used them haha.
SK: What did you think of the Janela match and wrestling for that rowdy Spring Break crowd?
MS: I thought the match was what it needed to be 100%. It was fun, crazy, and the story behind it was real. I’ve always fought from the bottom to pull out the win in the end, but to do it in front of that crowd, in the ring with Joey himself, was something I’ll never forget. It’ll stick with me forever.
SK: How would you compare your experience at Night One of JJSB to Night Two?
MS: Honestly, I was so tired by the time part two started. The Clusterfuck was indeed a clusterfuck lol. The atmosphere was still wild though. I got to see a bunch of random people in one ring and I cannot complain about that. I also had a stare down with my brother so that was cool.
(Editor’s note: Check out Mose’s interview with Marko’s brother, Logan, here!)
SK: What did ‘Mania week, as a whole, mean to you?
MS: To me, it was about being able to achieve a goal, and being able to be in an environment where all the people enjoy the same things. There was lots of bonding, and I don’t remember any drama. It was so great just being surrounded by wrestlers from all over the world.
SK: What’s next for Marko Stunt?
MS: What’s next? I’ve got a few things up my sleeve that I can’t necessarily speak of yet haha. Once they get announced though, I think it’ll be great! I just started getting more and more bookings, so it feels good to be getting back to the grind.
