What a Sunday we had at The Basement East. It was Easter, the two year anniversary for Southern Underground Pro and ended up being the first SUP show to be live streamed on IWTV. If that wasn’t enough this show aptly titled “Hold Your Ground” could have easily been called “Fucking Assbeater Matches Only” and in hindsight no one would have questioned a thing. LFG.
Kevin Ku vs. Marko Stunt: The build for Ku’s open challenge had so much speculation. Would Dylan answer? Maybe STAB truly isn’t gone? Stoney even guessed maybe a Brutus Beefcake appearance. Obviously, no one had a clue so we were HYPE as fuck when the lovely Pat Benatar hit, meaning Marko Stunt was back in Nashville. These two got down to business right away with this match being labeled in the “short and sweet” file cabinet. Marko makes a hero’s return and also makes quick work out of the always dangerous Kevin Ku. What a show starter.
Logan Stunt vs. Zach Cooper: These two have been going back and forth on social media for weeks in the lead-up to Sunday. Cooper said he was going to throw Logan around like a sack of potatoes or whatever they eat in Canada, while Logan said he only needed one kick to end this. Technically, both guys were right. Cooper was all over Stunt here with some super vicious offense including the “Chop Heard Around East Nashville” that left a legit print in Logan’s back.

After taking a beating Logan fights back and hits the kick he promised leading to the win. Both of these guys have big futures ahead of them.

O’Shay Edwards vs. Anthony Henry: This would have been the main event on so many other shows. Two legit badasses throwing big boy offense on one another like it ain’t no thang. The two went back and forth right from the bell…well, as soon as Shay made it clear he wasn’t being paid by the hour, that is. The two may have fought forever had it not been for JD Drake making his presence known on the outside. O’Shay took his eye off Henry just long enough to be taken advantage of. Henry gets a HUGE win in his SUP debut. Want to give a shout out to O’Shay who battled through with essentially one leg thanks to the Anthony Henry attack. Hoping this won’t be the last time we see these two cross paths.

The One Called Manders vs. Joshua Bishop: Rumors swirled that Bishop may hit the ring to “Old Town Road,” but this was nothing more than a pipe dream.
Once both men were in the squared circle, it took about .0000000001 seconds for this to become a goddamn fight. Bishop may be known more for his Slutty Cat antics at SUP, but outside of that, he’s known as a legit psychopath. At least that’s what I’ve gathered after seeing his match with Dom during Mania Weekend. Manders hasn’t been in SUP that long, but every time we see him, he brings the pain. Every. Single. Time.
All that was a long way of saying these dudes were just dropping each other on concrete for the fucking lolz.
.@JoshuaBishop_ catches Manders and gives him a bodyslam onto the concrete floor!#SUP #SUPrise @indiewrestling @sup_graps

Ok, ok, ok – they were doing it to win the match, but you could tell these guys were having a blast beating the hell out of each other. Manders picks up the win, but I highly recommend this match for any and everyone to behold.
Mr. Brickster vs. AC Mack: I had such hopes for this match. I hoped we would get a classic. I hoped we would see Brick shut up AC just a little bit. I hoped that Brick would show that he’s legit championship material. Such high hopes. Instead, AC sneaks up on Brick, takes out his knee then gets a quick 1-2-3 once Brick agreed to continue through the injury. We were in complete shock as Mack grabbed the mic and ran through his intro as a post match celebration. WOW. Not sure how bad Brick was injured, but all of us at SoBros HQ are sending positive vibes.
The Bone Collector Challenge: Holy shit this was so much fun. Dominic welcomed any and all challengers in this gauntlet open challenge starting off with Wayne Moxxi, which lasted about as long as it takes Dom to smash a human head in with his knee. Roughly one second and a knockout. Next up was the “Human BB Gun” Peyton Polson who shared just as quick of a death as Moxxi. Alex Ocean answered next and he went back and forth with The Bone Collector until he’s forced to tap leading to Alan Angels making his SUP debut. Again, Dom takes Angels’ best punch and gives it right back.
Garrini adds a pin fall on Rockin Rivera out next, though his fate is like so many before. Travis Huckabee hits and, in all honesty, looked for a moment like he was gonna get the best of Dom. No luck though as Garrini adds bone to the collection with Logan Stunt heading to the ring for the second time today. Stunt, with a clear hand print indented in his back thanks to Zach Cooper, wanted a piece of The Bone Collector and I lost my mind for a second.
Logan took the fight straight to Dom and appeared to be in position to get the biggest win of his career, even if Dom had already beat six dudes. Out of nowhere comes Kevin Ku leading to an apparent DQ victory for Logan? Before Logan can be torn apart Marko Stunt and Cabana Man Dan are out. In a passionate speech, Marko challenged Violence is Forever to a No DQ tag match at the next SUP show in June which appeared to be nonchalantly accepted by Ku. They Might Be Giants vs. Violence is Forever is a go, y’all.
Allie Kat vs. Logan Easton Laroux: I had no doubt Allie was gonna get the win, but when she came out to “I Would Die 4 U” by Prince it was over, y’all. OVER. On a show with so much downright violence, a match like this is really appreciated. Not to say this wasn’t a scrap because it was. Allie has fun, but she don’t fuck around. Not sure that makes sense, but I think y’all understand. The heart and soul of SUP picks up another win at The Basement East after a vicious Pussy Piledriver.

Jaden ‘Fucking’ Newman vs. Craig Mitchell: Man, this had a bad ass energy about it right from the jump. One of my favorite visuals of the entire show was Jaden holding up the #1 finger to Craig’s #FuckYou finger (the middle one). Both of these guys are on fire right now, which translated to a barnburner inside the ring. We saw everything these two had with Jaden getting oh so close to a win under the SUP banner. The day just happened to belong to Craig…excuse me I meant Craaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiig.
Cabana Man Dan vs. Matthew Justice: Wow. So, I’ve been telling people this was gonna be a “Mo fucking fight,” but I don’t know if peeps listened. Matthew Justice is a noted psychopath which translated well to what CMD brings to the table. A couple of buddies were at the show that only knew Dan from comedy matches, so they were blown away when he started chucking flop chops like the mad man he is. These two fought all over the place, even smashing each other with a legit trash can leaving garbage all over the place.
They made a mess #SUPrise pic.twitter.com/tMl9hbBV5q
— Wrasslin' on SoBros Network (@SoBrosWrasslin) April 21, 2019
They eventually make their way back to the ring where they continue to beat the hell out of one another. Another hoss fight, which happens to be CMD’s specialty. Another big win for Dan but people who didn’t know about Matthew Justice now know that man is bad news.
SUP Bonestorm Title: Brett Ison (c) vs. JD Drake- CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP. I mean, that could easily be the recap after what Brett was subjected to. Don’t get me wrong – that man has no back-down in him, so he don’t give a fuck. But, a couple of those chops sounded like gunshots. Alright – more than a couple. Like all of them.
This felt like a tough man competition more than anything. Not to mention the SUP crowd being able to root for Brett for the first time in… well…ever. It was this feeling of “Yay! Go Brett! Wait, this feels so weird. Brett is so mean. Still, fuck Drake he screwed with O’Shay. Yeah, fuck him. Go Brett!” And scene.
Drake controlled the match in a way we never see with someone squaring off against Brett. I mentioned the chops, but Drake also hit a moonsault that made a sound that can only be described as “semi truck crash.” Brett took all of this abuse. Everything Drake had. He just kept moving forward. If the guy feeds off punishment, he got his fill on Sunday. With a battered body, Ison hits one more flurry punctuated by a rolling Iron Elbow. Ison retains in a heavyweight fight, y’all.
This show ruled sooooooo hard. Congratulations out to the SUP gang for this show along with a bigger congrats for two excellent years! They’ll be back at it on June 2 with “Those That Fear Tomorrow” at The Basement East.
