A couple of weeks ago, “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick, myself, and our girlfriends ventured down to Chattanooga for one fun weekend. Brandon was there to cover the Chattanooga Film Festival. I was there to help him podcast. But, we were all there to take a load off when we could. Part of that was loading up on Saturday morning with a good breakfast. Our destination of choice? Maple Street Biscuit Company.
It’s a spot my girlfriend and I had for the first time when we went down in August of 2018 to celebrate our anniversary. It’s a spot I knew the rest of the crew would enjoy.

We made it to town around 10:30AM, and headed straight for Maple Street. During the ride down, I shared legend of the gigantic biscuits that were in store for us. When we arrived, the line was wrapped around nearly to the bathrooms. Thought we might’ve dodged a bullet by getting there a little late in the breakfast rush, but hey – this place is popular for a reason.
We made our decisions. Upon approaching the register, Brandon was delighted to hear that they ask you a question and how you respond to that is how they call out that your order is ready. In August, they asked me what my favorite song was. When my food was ready, they shouted out “Dixieland Delight.” This time, they asked who we’d want to share a biscuit with. I contemplated it deeply, as one should. It’s no easy decision.
When I arrived at the register, the gentlemen gave me no such option. He saw my Nashville Predators hoodie and proclaimed, “you’re getting Sidney Crosby.” Touché, sir. Well played.
Despite the crowd, we found a table and ate comfortably. To my knowledge, all parties involved were satisfied. Mine and Brandon’s more detailed thoughts are below. You can check out Maple Street Biscuit Company’s full menu here.
Ratings
Food: 8.5/10. I’m a big time breakfast guy, and this is about as good of breakfast food as you’re going to get. The first time I went, I got the Five and Dime. This time, I went with The Spud Bowl with a scrambled egg and gravy on top. It was other-worldly. You talk about hearty, this dish made for a mountain of cheesy potatoes. The grilled peppers and onions added a nice flavor and texture, but it’s the gravy that sets it all off. I’m a sucker for good gravy.
Atmosphere: 5/10. To be fair, if you’re going to a renowned biscuit spot at breakfast time, you’re kind of asking for it. But, the line was long and inconveniently placed. The line to wait in to order food goes right through the center of the restaurant. I’d like to visit at a time when it isn’t so crowded to get a better read on it.
Value: 7/10. I spent $25 on two entrees, a Coca-Cola, and a cup of coffee. Now, when the entrees are biscuits, that might sound a little steep. But, these monstrous biscuits make for a hearty portion that filled even my 280 pound ass up. It’s not cheap, but it’s damn sure nowhere near the brunch prices you’re going to pay in Nashville.
Overall: 6.83/10. It’s good food, make no mistake about it. But, the loud restaurant, long lines, and wait times make it a bit more of a hassle than I’d like on a Saturday morning. To be completely fair, someone more patient might think this is the best breakfast spot on Earth.
“Nature Boy” Brandon Vick also gave me a couple paragraphs on his thoughts on the restaurant:
The Maple Street Biscuit Company has that Nashville’s Biscuit Love vibe – and that’s a good thing. It also smelled delicious! One of the coolest things about this place is when you go and give your order. Apparently, they ask you something and whatever your answer is is what they’ll call out when your order is ready. Well I got the “Which celebrity – dead or alive – would you want to share a biscuit with?” My answer was a VERY easy one: Jack Nicholson.
As far as what my order was, I chose the BAM! waffles. They had bacon and asiago cheese baked in to them with honey butter and maple syrup on top. They were heaven to eat! I also got some Iced Cinnamon Biscuits for the table, and they hit the sweet spot. Looking back, it was probably a little too much with the waffles, but I had to try their biscuits. And if I’m going to do that then why not have them covered in sugar? It’s quite a fulfilling combo.
