Over the course of the next several weeks, the SoBros Network crew will be going team-by-team through the SEC, previewing the upcoming American tackle football season. Up next, the 2019 Georgia preview!

2019 Georgia Preview

What started out as the year we all expected turned into a bit of a nightmare last year for the Dawgs. One minute, you’re 11-1. Then the next, you’re 11-3 with another loss to Bama on your conscience, not to mention the Sugar Bowl loss to Texas that really wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. Still, an 11-win season is nothing to be ashamed of, and with as much talent as they have coming back it feels like this season is really about two things: beating Alabama and winning the National Championship.

Jake Fromm is coming into his junior year with serious Heisman hype and rightfully so. The guy is a gamer and I’ve got to say, I really enjoy watching him play. There is turnover on the offensive line, but it still should be a very physical bunch. De’Andre Swift brings his play-making all over the field with Zamir White also looking to bounce back from injury issues in the backfield. UGA lost their top three receivers from last year, so there is a big question mark there. But with Fromm slinging the ball, I’m not sure how much Bulldog fans should be worried. The biggest change is at offensive coordinator as Jim Chaney high tailed it back to Knoxville. James Coley takes over so there may be some growing pains, but with Fromm leading the offense, I wouldn’t expect much of a (if any) step backwards.

The defense returns seven starters, but there were big losses in De’Andre Walker and De’Andre Baker. Both will absolutely be missed, but there is a ton of talent looking to fill in. The Dawgs have six players who were five star recruits. SIX. Even with the loss of Baker, who didn’t give up a touchdown the last two years, the secondary should still be hard to beat with veterans all over the place.

2019 Bulldogs Schedule

8/31 @ Vanderbilt- A conference game right out of the gate y’all. Derek Mason will have the Commodore faithful riled up buuuut it won’t last long. UGA runs away with this one.

9/7 vs. Murray St.- Fromm and co. roll in the home opener.

9/14 vs. Arkansas St.- Fromm and co. roll in Athens.

9/21 vs. Notre Dame- Based on ND’s track record, this one could very well be another “Fromm and co. roll.” These two had a hell of a game a couple of years back in what was the start of Fromm’s legacy, but I’m just not sure what Notre Dame will look like. UGA wins.

10/5 @ Tennessee- Jeremy Pruitt has people on Rocky Top excited but this one probably gets out of hand in the second half if not sooner.

10/12 vs. South Carolina- The Gamecocks just have too many question marks on the defensive side for me to think this one is close. UGA by a lot.

10/19 vs. Kentucky- UK only lost three times last year. UGA was one of those losses and that was with Benny Snell. Dawgs keep rolling.

11/2 vs. Florida (in Jacksonville)– I’m a Dan Mullen guy and I like what he’s got going down in Gator Country, but I just can’t pick them in this one. I like UF’s defense and could see them getting after Fromm but I think the same could be said about the Dawgs defense with Feleipe Franks. Give me Fromm and co.

11/9 vs. Missouri- This one could be the dark horse game for a UGA upset. Coming off the high emotion of the cocktail party (I said it), maybe Kelly Bryant and the Tigers could catch the Bulldogs slipping. I don’t think it happens but this one could be very interesting.

11/16 @ Auburn- Give me the Dawgs by a couple of touchdowns. Auburn has question marks at o-line and quarterback which is a terrible recipe when playing a defense like you’re gonna see against Georgia.

11/23 vs. Texas A&M- Much like Florida, I really like what A&M did with bringing in Jimbo. If the Aggie defense wasn’t so questionable, I’d say this one could be really, really good. I just think Swift eats up yardage and Fromm picks a part the pieces.

11/30 @ Georgia Tech- I don’t care how much Georgia Tech hates Georgia, this one gets bowling shoe ugly real quick. UGA by three or four touchdowns.

Prediction

The only real goals left for Kirby Smart and the Dawgs are to get over that Bama hump and actually get their paws on the National Championship trophy. The schedule is very workable with only Notre Dame, Florida and Texas A&M sticking out, plus a possible underrated Missouri team. I think we see a super talented and super zoned in Bulldog team make a statement this year. I don’t know if they’re gonna beat Bama, but I do think they’ll get another crack at them in Atlanta.
