Mount Juliet Needs a Legit Ice Cream Shop

Listen – I love Dairy Queen as much as the next guy. It’s the ‘ol’ reliable’ of ice cream chains. But, at the end of the day, it’s still a chain. It definitely lacks that old school charm of a mom-and-pop family ice cream joint. That’s about all Mount Juliet, Tennessee has in terms of ice cream unless you want to just pick up a pint of Purity at the grocery store.

Even back in the day, we had a Marble Slab in Providence, but like all good things, they come to an end. Nashville, as a whole, seems to have a shortage on good old fashioned ice cream joints – unless you’re close to Bobbie’s Dairy Dip in West Nashville, Karin’s in Smyrna, or one of the fine establishments of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream.

I’ve been hoping for a good ice cream shop to hit Mount Juliet for a hot minute now, so you can imagine the excitement that washed over me when I saw that Jeni’s was opening a new location in the Nashville area. *fingers crossed* ‘Please be Mount Juliet. Please be Mount Juliet. Please be Mount Juliet.’

Plans on file with the city of Franklin indicate that a Jeni’s is being added to the $270 million McEwen Northside development under construction in Cool Springs.

DAMN IT!

Cool Springs wins the Jeni’s sweepstakes. No Frose Sorbet for us peasants here in Mount Juliet. Enjoy your Brambleberry Crisp, Cool Springs. Shit, y’all already have a Jeni’s out at The Factory. What do you need one in Cool Springs for? This is bullshit.

Oh well, Jeni’s is still technically a chain, so I DIDN’T EVEN WANT YOU GUYS IN MOUNT JULIET ANYWAY! Even though this is total bullshit, I’m still going to buy the shit out of Jeni’s because I love that Frose Sorbet. The honey vanilla gimmick is good as well. I can’t stay mad at you, Jeni’s. Who am I kidding?

Every time my girlfriend and I visit New Jersey, I swear there’s an old fashioned ice cream joint in every town. Whether we’re stopping at the Ice Cream Palace or the Jersey Freeze, there’s always that satisfaction of getting good ice cream.

What’s it going to take for Mount Juliet to get that? Are we going to have to go into the ice cream business? ‘SoBros Scoops’ does have a ring to it. Who knows?

We just need it. NEEEEEEEEEEED it.
