For the first time since…I believe…1994, W.O.M.B.A.T. (Warriors of Mat Battle And Trouble) was back in Tullahoma, and let me tell you, shit got wild. From Effy Juice to Bob Wire and everything in between, this show had the White Claw Arena popping from start to finish. We had an appearance from the Invisible Man, which had the crowd (and Mr. Brickster) all kinds of fired up leading us to our first match of the evening.
Smoking Budz vs. Johnny Butkus and Derek Marcus: The Budz completely and unabashedly FUCK. They may not have been alive back when ‘the incident’ occurred under the W.O.M.B.A.T. banner, but they sure as hell brought it in their debut. Butkus and Markus never really got a chance to get momentum going as the Budz were all over them from the jump. A quick win for The Smoking Budz thanks to “The Smizz” leads to The Carnies calling them out for a match later in the night.
Jimmy Lloyd vs. Jaden Newman: Jaden came out hot as a frying pan but Jimmy Lloyd, as promised, is a different boy. Quick win for Jimmy, but damn was it cool to be there live for Jaden’s W.O.M.B.A.T. debut.
Nick Gage vs. Cabana Man Dan: My gawd. Seeing these two go head to head was everything W.O.M.B.A.T. represents. Dan came ready to throw the fuck down, but at the end of the day, it’s Nick Gage. A face wash and a piledriver gives the King another win in his historic W.O.M.B.A.T. lineage.
Effy Juice vs. Hot Tamale and Donnie Primetime: Effy and Juicy Jimmy tore the house down. They had the crowd yelling “Make it gayer” essentially from the opening bell. Not what was expected, but damn was it awesome. Effy and Jimmy have some fun and pick up the win leading into their showdown with The Rejects later in the night.
Mississippi River Title: DJ Arp vs. Austin Wright: DJ came out in full SHIELD regalia that had members of the audience yelling “Big Dawg.” These two went back and forth with Arp getting the upper hand thanks to a nasty kick to the dick. A quick pin after keeps the Mississippi River Title in the hands of ole DJ.
Tullahoma Two Step Street Fight- Doug Gilbert vs. Mance Warner: Holy shit, this was straight fuckery. The two brawled all over the venue before they started bashing each other with anything they could get their hands on. Stoney got so fired up, he got into a shouting match with Doug Gilbert. Well, not really because Stones couldn’t make out what Doug was saying so he just kept yelling “I can’t understand you!” or something to that affect. Gilbert gets the win on some goddamn bullshit but Mancer is far from done with Dangerous Doug.
The Carnies vs. The Smoking Budz: One of my favorite matches of the night. These four started off hot and never slowed down. A fist fight that turned into a wrestling match, my friends. The real turning point was The Budz taking stereo suplexes into the wooden barricade leaving both bois smothered and covered. The Budz tried to fight through and even got a super close two count before The Circus took over for good. A forced destroyer from Cody to David got The Carnies the big W.O.M.B.A.T. win.
WOMBAT TV Title- Tony Deppen vs. John Poe: Deppen was hated and Poe was loved. Pretty much exactly as expected. ‘Mr. Walk It Out’ John Poe has history at W.O.M.B.A.T. so the crowd was super hot for him to finally get a title shot. He gave it his all, but Tony Deppen was not gonna let that title slip between his fingers. Thanks to some rope leverage, Deppen gets the 1-2-3.
The Rejects vs. Effy Juice: If you would have told me this match would feature a butt plug, I would have 100% believed you. Between the ‘titty sweat’ chant and the inevitable plug, this was a fuckshow. I’m not sure what that exactly means either. I really don’t know how to put this match into words other than the ones I’ve already used. The Rejects get the win but with the sweaty post match kiss between Jimmy and Effy, I think we’re all winners here.
WOMBAT Hardcore Title Ladder Match- GQ vs. Grease Lightning: This match started with GQ jumping Grease at the entrance than taking a goddamn switch blade to his head. Grease flipped the script quickly with a hip toss onto one of the W.O.M.B.A.T. ladders. He followed that up with a shot to GQ’s head with a baseball bat. Both men bled all over the White Claw Arena and legit chose to fight more often than go for the title. An extension ladder was eventually propped up, leading the two to finally go for the win rather than blood. Grease Lightning took an electric chair from the ladder which was the nail in the coffin. GQ is your new W.O.M.B.A.T. hardcore champion. This got a ‘match of the year’ chant from the crowd.
The Stunt Bros vs. Thug Life: What a battle of worlds this was. The Stunt Bros are all about having a good time and Thug Life (AJ Gray and Psycho Medic) are all about fucking shit up. The Stunt bois brought some top notch team work, but it wouldn’t be enough. AJ hits a huge lariat on Logan and picks up the big win for Thug Life.
Bob Wire Match- Nick Gage vs. Uncle Byff: The deadliest kind of match you could ever dream of is back with mo fuckin BOB WIRE! Now just add two noted psychopaths like these guys and you’ve got an appetite for destruction, baby. Within the first few minutes, Gage is tossed through a bob wire covered door, only to jump up like it was nothing. With some help from Momma Hannah, Byff was able to take control, but it wouldn’t last. Nick Gage hits a vicious choke breaker and that’s all she wrote folks. BOOOOOOOOB WIIIIIIRE.
Blindfold Match- Jimmy Lloyd vs. JJ Garrett: What started out as a fun, southern tradition of a match turned into shit for JJ as Referee Doug was yanked in the way and was smashed by JJ. Jimmy used the opportunity to take off his blindfold and beat on Garrett for a couple of minutes. It appeared all was lost when a second ref came out to make the count for Jimmy until a huge kick out for JJ at 2. With both men back under blindfolds, a shocker of a Tullahoma Destroyer was hit by JJ leading to the big time upset.
WOMBAT TV Title- Tony Deppen vs. Bill Dundee: Bill was throwing fucking taters in this match. His entire gameplan had to be “Punch Deppen in the head” and I have to admit it worked pretty well. Deppen was throwing too, but those ‘Superstar’ rights just seemed to smack a little harder. Out of nowhere, Bill Dundee hit a big boot and got the three count! Bill Dundee is your new W.O.M.B.A.T. Television champion!!!! The locker room cleared out to show Bill some love, but Dundee took a quick victory lap then headed to the back. Word is he had a double shot to make in Memphis.
