The Rumor Mill’s Running: The Orioles to Nashville?

The Baltimore Orioles to Nashville? Whew – can’t say I saw that coming. We’ve heard rumblings of Major League Baseball coming to Nashville for quite some time now. I’ve long been of the opinion that it’s too soon for such a thing, but apparently me standing from my mountaintop and shouting that isn’t slowing the rumor mill down at all.

Courtesy of the Washington Business Journal:

“…a Baltimore Post-Examiner story citing “reliable sources” reported the team’s ownership could be eyeing a sale. Perhaps most worrisome for Orioles fans, however, is that the story also speculated about the team moving to Nashville, Tennessee.”

This is a wild story with a lot of meat on the bone. Much more than I anticipated. The team’s lease is up in 2021 – how crazy it to think of the O’s playing anywhere BUT Camden Yards?!?! John Angelos, Executive Vice President of the team, has a house in Tennessee. It’s crazy to read that this rumor has been out there for a while now. Fuck, maybe I’ve just been completely oblivious to this and y’all are going to read this and say, “fuckin’ DUH STONEY – where have you been?”

Man, the rumor as long as I’ve been following these ‘MLB to Nashville’ talks has always been that the Tampa Bay Rays would end up here! Maybe I’m late to the party, but the idea of the O’s leaving Camden Yards and setting up shop in the Music City is a damn blindside hit.

As I’ve said before, I’m not opposed to the idea of MLB residing in Nashville. I just don’t know that the city is quite big enough to support four pro sports franchises yet (NFL, NHL, MLS, MLB). That said, if it means getting the Nashville Orioles, I’m all for some financial struggling – I mean those black and orange Halloween-lookin’ unis are S I C K.
