Good for Troy Aikman – and yeah, Gottlieb is probably just trying to be hot take guy and drum up a bunch of fake controversy. At least, I hope that’s the case. If not, then good on guys like Aikman for calling him on his bullshit. I couldn’t say it any better myself.
I was really hoping to not draw attention to this whole Andrew Luck retiring thing. Was really just going to pretend like nothing happened, considering I came out and said he was going to be the #1 quarterback, and an MVP contender, in 2019. As a journalist, your number one job is to hide the truth if it effects your credibility as a writer, and that’s exactly what I was going to do.
But, after seeing the response to the news, I just can’t keep my mouth shut.
Some of y’all are just plain dumb as shit. Like, it is NOT that big of a deal if a man wants to protect his well-being to walk away from the game. It ain’t going to impact your day-to-day.
Quit with this millennial bullshit. Quit booing Andrew Luck. Quit acting like you have any idea what the man is going through. And, quit acting like Luck owes any of us anything. It’s his life and I fucking applaud his decision to protect his life long term.
If I had a hundred million in the bank, I think I’d probably consider retiring and hanging out with my wife even if I wasn’t injured.
That man plays a game that literally destroys your body. People want to call it a “children’s game” but I don’t see any toddlers taking that field. It’s grown ass 300+ pound men who make a living off of knocking quarterbacks on their asses. I would actually argue that it is dumb as fuck to KEEP PLAYING that game.
Like, look at all the research that’s come out on CTE. Look at the guys who are hobbling around at the age of 50. WHO THE FUCK WANTS THAT?!?! Fuckin’ old head out there talkin’ ’bout, “back in my day” or “before these goddamn millennials…”
Andrew Luck is not the first man to retire because injuries ruined the game for him. He won’t be the last.
All you old heads better get used to the idea. I still think we’re in the initial stages of the decline of American football altogether. Find something else to bitch about.
