Week 2 is in the books, and short of one top 10 match-up, it was a lot of ‘business as usual.’ Overmatched matchups nearly across the board of the top 25 with just a sprinkle of surprise.

CFB Week 2 Recap

LSU is legit: In the biggest game of the day, LSU showed why they were getting so much hype coming into the season. Joe Burrow looked incredible, throwing for nearly 500 yards under the big lights. Texas brought it, but their defense is really gonna have to take some strides if they don’t want the same situation to play out against Oklahoma in a few weeks.

Clemson vs. A&M: Clemson’s defense absolutely suffocated Kellen Mond and the Aggies offense. Trevor Lawrence AND Travis Etienne were both kept in check, yet A&M still find themselves losing by two touchdowns. That’s a huge feather in the cap for a Clemson defense that many expected to take a step back with the loss of soooo much talent. The real head scratcher for the Tigers has to be the play of Lawrence through two games. Next week will be very telling, as Clemson plays a Syracuse team that just gave up nearly 70 points to Maryland.

Bama, UGA, Oklahoma all roll: They did what we thought they would do. Big time blowout wins across the board as these three playoff hopefuls look like they should against overmatched opponents.

Michigan ekes out double overtime win: Yes Army is a really good team and yes it was a joke to have Michigan as a 22-point favorite. All that said, the mistakes Michigan continues to make on offense have to have Wolverine fans feeling a bit nervous. This team just doesn’t look like a legit playoff contender through two games. The good news is Army took Oklahoma to double overtime last year in Norman before the Sooners eventually made their way into the final four. With big time games against Iowa, Penn St, Notre Dame, Michigan St, Ohio St AND a possible sleeper in Maryland, it may be a tougher road than some expected.

Ohio St blanks Cincy: There was a lot of talk that Cincinnati was gonna be a little bit of a test for the Buckeyes. Yeah, not so much as OSU looked just as well oiled as they did in Week 1. Expect the Buckeyes to cruise the next couple of weeks until a super tough Michigan St defense comes into the Horseshoe.

Pac 12 Upsets: Stanford and USC squared off with both teams forced to play their backup quarterbacks due to injuries. The Trojans pulled away and beat the #23 ranked Cardinal thanks to the play of said quarterback Kedon Slavis. The freshman looked comfortable and had to have relieved a little bit of the stress that came with J.T. Daniels’ injury.

#14 Washington lost in a weird one to Cal after a two and a half hour long lightning delay. Jacob Eason played poorly throughout, which was a huge surprise to me. Cal won on a field goal with less than 10 seconds left in the game which was a straight up heartbreaker for UW fans as they had serious high hopes for this team. Shout out to Cal for going on the road and beating a good team even through the loooooooong weather delay.
