Purdue Rolled Out an Astronaut Riding a Drum Waving an American Flag on Saturday

The Purdue Boilermakers haven’t exactly put an exciting brand of football out on the field so far in 2019. They started 1-4, with that only win coming at the expense of the Vanderbilt Commodores (HOOWEE how does that loss look in retrospect for the Dores?). Otherwise, they’ve lost to Nevada and Minnesota, and they were blown out by TCU and Penn State.

Not exactly the “next step” for Jeff Brohm and company, but hey – the Big Ten is a competitive conference and Purdue’s a hard school to win at! It could be worse – at least they aren’t Rutgers.

On Saturday, though, they rolled out this person dressed as an astronaut, riding a giant drum and waving an American flag. The subsequent result? They rocked the Maryland Terrapins, hanging a 40-burger on ’em in the process!

Hell yeah, man! WTF? What’s the message here? Do they have a lot of astronauts at Purdue? It seems like I’ve heard tale of their legendary aerospace program, but I could just be making that up in my head. I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t even care what the symbolism is supposed to be. That’s badass.

What’s more impressive? Becoming an astronaut? Or, being able to ride a drum while it moves DRESSED as an astronaut? I know they only give out college degrees for one of those things, but honestly – I’m kind of leaning more towards the latter option. I’d say “you try it and tell me,” but holy shit – that would take a lot of work either way, and that is just ridiculous for the sake of answering a question from a dumb article like this one.

It’s possible this is still a bowl team – I mean, they’re going to have to win one game that they aren’t favored in, but with Illinois, Northwestern, and Indiana on deck, they could get to five wins. Then, it’s just a matter of beating Nebraska (0% chance they beat Iowa or Wisconsin). If I’m Purdue, I’m trotting out the astronaut riding the drum and waving the American flag before EVERY game the rest of the season.
