Titans Keys to Victory: Buffalo Bills

We have an interesting match-up inside the confines of Nissan Stadium on Sunday as the Buffalo Bills travel to Nashville for a date with the Tennessee Titans. These are two teams that play excellent defense, and because of that, could figure to be dark horses in the AFC. This part of the schedule sets up nicely for the Titans, so if they want to stockpile some wins, this is the week to get started. That, however, won’t be an easy task against this vaunted Bills defense. Let’s get to the Titans-Bills preview, and the Titans keys to victory.

Protect the ball

This game has all the makings of a grid-locked defensive battle. Two elite defenses, and two offenses predicated on running the ball. I don’t expect too many deep shots, and I don’t expect either offense to light up the scoreboard. So, points are going to be at a premium – if the Titans don’t hand the ball over to the Bills and give ’em good field position and easy points, they’ll be in a good spot to control the game.

Force turnovers

We still don’t know who’s going to start at quarterback for the Bills on Sunday. I definitely think this is a game in which whoever wins the turnover battle is going to win the game. If Matt Barkley is the guy, then the Titans HAVE to bait him into a fumble or interception. If it’s Josh Allen, they have to keep him from rushing for 100 yards and force him to throw the ball.

Special teams

You’re probably noticing that my game plan would be centered around playing mistake-free football this weekend. And yes, I know that no NFL team goes into a game saying, “y’know what? Mistakes are okay in this game!” But, I think this game calls for an emphasis on the fundamentals. Field position and special teams become of paramount importance in games like this, so Brett Kern could be the difference maker.

He’s sure as shit been fun to watch this season, and I don’t know what it says about me that I’m fired up to watch the punter on Sunday, but the dude is a bona fide weapon. They’ll need him on Sunday.

Let’s hear dem score predictions in the comments or on socials.
