‘Tis the season. The holiday moviethon is underway, and I don’t know about you guys, but I’m watching Christmas movies left and right every chance I get. Seven different SoBros convened upon the topic of our top 10 Christmas movies. I awarded points based on where each SoBro had their movies ranked, and we came up with 28 movies….everything from It’s A Wonderful Life to Krampus popped up. And, yes – even Die Hard was mentioned, so you know where this company stands on whether or not it’s a Christmas movie.
So without further ado, here’s our official unofficial list of our top 10 Christmas movies for 2019.
The SoBros Network’s Top 10 Christmas Movies
10. The Night Before – I may have never been more proud of my team than when I saw multiple people putting this underrated hit on their lists. It’s high on mine – a bit non-traditional, but that’s just the way I like it.
9. The Santa Clause – The Santa Clause slides a bit on this year’s list. Still mentioned by several people but low on their lists. I will say that as far as ‘family classics’ go, I don’t think this one holds up as well over time. I’m more #TeamPolarExpress in that regard.
8. Home Alone 2 – We have some big time fans of the Home Alone franchise in the SoBros camp. For the first time since we’ve been doing this list, the sequel cracks the top 10. It’s a good one, don’t get me wrong – feels like it’s overdue for some shine on this website.
7. Love, Actually – I can’t imagine the kids will be into this one, but shit – how can you go wrong with handsome Hugh Grant?
6. A Muppet Christmas Carol – Damn, I thought I was the only one who liked this movie, but enough SoBros voted on it to get it on the list. It is a quintessential Christmas classic, arguably the BEST version of A Christmas Carol, and it warms my heart to see it ranked so highly.
5. Gremlins – I have to say, this feels like a bit of an upset. Gremlins has cracked the SoBros top five. Four of the seven SoBros voters had it on their lists.
4. Elf – To quote Brittany Fernandez, “I could’ve listed Elf 10 times tbh.” At this point, Buddy the Elf is as synonymous with Christmas as Santa Claus himself.
3. A Christmas Story – Hot take city, I know…but I’ve never seen this movie. It’s one of those deals where everyone tells me I have to, so I definitely don’t want to. Wish I could write more about it, but here we are. Probably should’ve asked for a blurb from somebody else, but hindsight is 20/20. I guess enough SoBros have seen and enjoyed this movie enough to vote it to our #3 spot.
2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – It’s been #1 on this list for years, and it’s still #1 in my heart. Christmas Vacation is the gift that keeps on giving. I’m serious….Clark.
1. Home Alone – Well, well, well…there’s a new #1 for 2019. Kevin McAllister has ascended the throne of the SoBros Network Christmas movies list. It showed up on four different SoBros lists, ranking #1 on one, #2 on two others, and #5 on the fourth one. It dethroned Christmas Vacation by seven points. Didn’t we all grow up dreaming of ways we could booby trap our homes because of this movie? If that’s not the spirit of Christmas, I don’t know what is.
