I really don’t know how I ended up on so many press release lists, but in this case, I’m glad I did. This one absolutely floored me. For one, I didn’t even realize that Gigi’s Cupcakes was celebrating a 12-year run after starting up in Nashville in 2008. I mean, I don’t know about you guys, but when I hear the term ‘cupcakes’ here in Nashville, I automatically think Gigi’s Cupcakes.
For another, I didn’t realize just how far they’ve come since 2008. I remember the first time I heard about Gigi’s, it was as if it was some elusive mythical beast. Everyone spoke of Gigi’s Cupcakes as if they were some delightful treat that we simply were not worthy of. How these cupcakes descended from heaven was a mystery that likely remains unsolved to this day.

Gigi Butler, entrepreneur and founder of Gigi’s Cupcakes, admits her story of success is full of sweet irony. Gigi opened her first cupcake location just off Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee in 2008. Gigi’s Cupcakes is now the largest cupcake franchise in the country with over 100 stores in 24 states and over 100 million cupcakes sold.
*Jaw hits the floor*
100,000,000 CUPCAKES?!?! I can’t even fathom how many cupcakes that is. We need those people who do those weird stats like ‘if you stretched your veins out, they’d wrap around the world 18 times’ on this. Would 100,000,000 million cupcakes be enough to build a cupcake ladder to the moon? I’ll wait and see how the science plays out, but I’d be willing to bet ‘yes.’
*UPDATE* Man, that didn’t take long…our guy Chad hit me up on Facebook with:
“Assuming a total cupcake height of 4″ (that frosting mound is INSANE), 100,000,000 cupcakes stacked end to end, you’d get a stack 6,313.131 miles long. That’s enough to fly round trip from BNA to Las Vegas, twice!”
There we go.
With the food scene as volatile as it is in Nashville, hitting 12 years and becoming an icon of the Music City is about as respectable as it gets. Gigi’s becoming the largest cupcake franchise in the country is downright unfathomable. That’s real OG success right there, folks. Big time props for this one, Gigi!
And, if you haven’t already, you gotta get in and try that wedding cake cupcake. That one and the margarita cupcake changed my life.
