Bill O’Brien may have very well replaced Lane Kiffin as the poster boy for failing up. Don’t get me wrong – the Houston Texans have been decent during his tenure as head coach. But, they’ve hardly taken the next step towards becoming a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Hell, usually in the NFL, you get a few years, and if you don’t take that step, you’re fired.
In Houston’s case, though, they gave O’Brien the keys to the Corvette. They made the man the general manager. Now, he’s out here trading away players who are in their prime…players that definitely helped keep the Texans relevant in the AFC…for no fucking reason.
The Texans shipped stud receiver DeAndre Hopkins…a guy that I said, and still believe, is the best wide receiver in the entire NFL…off to the Arizona Cardinals for a second round pick, a fourth round pick in 2021, and David Johnson‘s osteoporosis ass. You gotta be fuckin’ kidding me. Could the Cardinals not throw in a washing machine while they were at it?
As a fan of the Tennessee Titans, this is wonderful news.
I’ve watched the Titans struggle to contain Hopkins ever since he was drafted…because..you know….that’s how good players operate. That’s what happens when you have a player who is elite at his position. He’s going to give your divisional opponents fits. But, I guess that’s not important when you could have a running back who hasn’t been particularly productive -OR- healthy since 2016.
Now’s the time to really find out if Kenny Stills can be your number one or not. Will Fuller has definitely shown that he’s durable enough to be the go-to guy on that Texans offense. UPDATE: Fuller is actually listed as questionable and they ain’t even playin’ football right now!
I mean, what goes on this man’s mind?! We gotta pay Lamar Miller BIG money. We should trade for Carlos Hyde. Let’s sign Duke Johnson and then not really use him. Let’s get rid of the best receiver in football for the corpse of David Johnson. Oh, and let’s also give Randall Cobb $18.75 million way past his prime.
What’s next? Are the Texans going to announce that they’ve signed Santana Moss to replace Hopkins?
This needs to be a lesson for the rest of the NFL for whenever some coach wants to speak up and go for GM responsibilities as well. This is just stupid. Like I said…I’m a Titans fan, so I’m here for it, but man…I feel for my friends who are Texans fans…
Bill O’Brien is a fucking godsend to the rest of the AFC South. I hope they never fire his ass. In a couple of years, they’ll announce that he is officially the owner of the Houston Texans. By 2030, he may very well be the mayor of Houston.
