Welcome to the weekly Tennessee Titans draft roundup for the 2020 NFL Draft. Over the course of the next several weeks, I’ll be releasing this column once a week with my very professional journalism opinions. You’ll find everything from rumors to wild speculation to actual analysis (sometimes). Titan up!
*Big shouts to the boys at Football & Other F Words for coming up with this AWESOME spreadsheet, documenting all of the draft prospects that the Titans have had contact with throughout this process:
We compiled a list of all the Draft Prospects that have had contact with the #Titans.

A lot of names that can make this team better! pic.twitter.com/Wv9QHyjrb3
This is pretty telling of where the organization’s head is at heading into next week’s draft. A lot of cornerbacks, running backs, and offensive linemen on that list with some defensive linemen, LB/EDGE, and wide receivers sprinkled in. That’s about in line with what most of us thought the Titans would be looking for in this draft, but I have to say – I am surprised at the the names popping up at running back. Those are some 1st and 2nd round names…specifically D’Andre Swift, who figures to be one of the premiere backs out of this class. Would they really throw #29 at the position? *drama intensifies*
*There aren’t a whole lot of new names popping up in the world of NFL mock drafts this week, but one that particularly stuck out to me was Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com mocking Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Titans. That’s not a name I’ve seen floating around the first round, but this is a DEEP deep receiver class, and it seems like there’s a new rotation of guys every week.
What I like about Aiyuk is his elusiveness – he’s a big time YAC guy. He’s good in one-on-one match-ups. Plus, he has the added bonus of being a potential return man, too. What I don’t like about taking him at #29 is that he seems like a guy that would push for Corey Davis‘ spot as the #2. Do you spend your first round pick on that guy when you can likely get him later on in the draft?
If the Titans elect to go wideout in the first round, I’d rather see ’em go with a speed guy they can line up in the slot in Week 1 and send him down the field.
*Mel Kiper, Jr. has the Titans going Yetur Gross-Matos in the first round, and Trevon Diggs in the second round. In related news, Mel Kiper Jr. can get fucked. That’s a little harsh, and I apologize. I just don’t see it with either one of these guys and the Titans. I wrote about Gross-Matos (see below), and it doesn’t seem like he’s what the Titans need at the position AT ALL. Likewise, I don’t get the infatuation with Diggs – he’s supremely talented with a ton of potential, but he’s best suited in a situation that will allow him time to develop. The Titans need a guy who can come in right away and run down the sideline with Tyreek Hill.
*Terrell Lewis reportedly met with the Titans. I haven’t dug into the specifics of his game just yet, but as a Bama fan on Saturdays, I know all about how frustrating his injury history is. That said, he showed some real flashes, and if he can get a little more durable and bulk up a bit, he could be a real difference-maker with someone who knows how to use him. I believe the Titans staff can be that ‘someone.’ I wouldn’t be against picking Lewis, even in the 1st, knowing that his services won’t be needed right away. That ought to alleviate the pressure to succeed right away, and will give him time to develop under Mike Vrabel.
*As it stands, the Titans currently have picks in the 2020 NFL Draft:
- 1st round, 29th overall
- 2nd round, 61st overall
- 3rd round, 93rd overall
- 5th round, 174th overall
- 7th round, 224th overall
- 7th round, 243rd overall
See y’all next week!
