We’ve talked about the possibility of the Tennessee Titans going running back at #29. A ton of people are mocking offensive linemen to the Titans at #29. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that the Titans are looking to add another home run hitter on offense in some form or fashion. As a unit, it’s only a piece or two away from being one of the best in the NFL, as strange as that may feel to say as a Titans fan.
But, that’s why there’s also a lot of mockers out there are slotting a wide receiver to the Titans in the first round. I don’t hate the idea – I’ve been pretty outspoken about how much I love the position the Titans are in heading into this year’s NFL Draft. They can stockpile talent at a number of positions, and aren’t in such need of one particular position that they’re tied to it. They could go with just about anything and be fine.
Now, you can forget about CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, or Henry Ruggs III. All three of those guys figure to be at least top 15 picks, and won’t even be an option unless the Titans trade up to get one of ’em and I just don’t see that happening. But, this is a deep receiver class, and there are plenty of guys worth taking their at the end of the first round.
Wide Receivers the Titans Could Take at #29
Brandon Aiyuk – A good all-around receiving prospect with solid size and speed. Aiyuk has excellent football instincts, and is a YAC factory. A YACtory, if you will. He needs to get a little more aggressive as coverage is going to be tighter in the NFL, and he’ll have a lot more contested catches to make.
K.J. Hamler – When you’re drawing comparisons to DeSean Jackson, that’s lofty. But, Hamler is that kind of deep threat speed guy. He’s as versatile as they come and adds potential value as a returner as well. He could be deadly in the slot with A.J. Brown and Corey Davis on each side.
Tee Higgins – If you want a quality build in a wide receiver, Higgins is the guy. This kid looks like he was born to be a receiver. His 6’4″, 216-pound frame makes him an ideal red zone target, but he also possesses an incredible ability to get separation.
Justin Jefferson – I like Jefferson a lot as a slot receiver. He’s a guy that plays a lot faster than his 40 time would suggest. He needs a little more discipline in his routes, and you wonder how much of his success was a byproduct of Joe Burrow and that historic LSU offense. But, in the right situation, Jefferson could blossom into a quality starter.
Denzel Mims – the former Baylor stud has speed for days, but the tape don’t lie…he’s not a natural separator. That’s not something that’s exactly going to come easier when he makes it to the NFL. He could be a work in progress, but he has the explosive traits the Titans offense could use.
Jalen Raegor – A twitchy and blazing play-maker who is simply electric with the ball in his hands. Questions surrounding his focus and struggles with press coverage dock him from being an elite prospect. But, he’s the type of guy that if you can just get the ball in his hands, he’ll make plays. If you’re asking him to be WR2 or WR3 (which the Titans would be), he could excel in that role.
