When you reach the levels of success that Undertaker has in the wrestling industry, it’s rare air. The longer you go, it seems, the harder it is to give it up, too. That’s the harrowing experience the man under the hat is sharing on the WWE Network’s documentary, Undertaker: The Last Ride.

I thought Edge put it best. Who is to tell that man when he can hang it up? He’s earned the right to go out on his own terms. And, the crux of that struggle between the Undertaker and Mark Calaway is the very essence of Undertaker: The Last Ride. It’s an interesting glimpse into the mind of Calaway and how he’s felt about his last few years in the WWE, and demonstrates just how much he means to Vince McMahon, the WWE, and the boys in the locker room. It’s hard to imagine this man being just a normal dude…a husband…a dad….all of those things. Undertaker is someone who’s protected his character for his entire career. I was initially shocked watching this series because of just how much access he allows for the camera. It’s a truly eye-opening and, in a way, saddening, experience for fans who, like me, have watched this man wrestle his entire career.

On the latest episode of Checks and Championships, John Mosley and I dive into the documentary series before we shift gears and talk about the state of independent wrestling and how shows across the country are beginning to run again.
