I’m not even entirely sure what DC FanDome is or was…some sort of virtual convention during which DC dropped a shit load of new content, teasers, and trailers alike. Not sure how I completely missed the boat on that one, but here we are…with your EIC just flabbergasted by all the new DC movie news. The Suicide Squad has about a million people in it. Wonder Woman 84 looks super badass, and the Snyder cut Justice League trailer was a lot of fun. But, the big show this weekend was the drop of a new The Batman trailer, and boy does it have me feeling fired up and ready to run through a brick wall.

I’ve admitted it before – I was one of the folks who needed to be sold on Battinson. When I first saw the news, I kinda tilted my head to the side and thought, “really?” Not even necessarily because he was “the Twilight guy,” (I mean, yeah – I didn’t see the vision either) but because it just seemed like a huge shift from Ben Affleck…so, I’m looking at it like, “what are you guys doing, DC? Will you make up your minds on this “DCEU” business?” But, Brandon and Mose both, from the jump, were like, “nah, just wait. It’s not as bad as people think.” And, I think it’s safe to say that those dudes have to be doing victory laps after seeing this trailer.
I spent a weekend earlier on in the lockdown watching nothing but Robert Pattinson movies…a lot of the lesser known stuff he’s done. I really came around on the guy – now, I look forward to his stuff coming out. It’s all about doing your homework, people (and while we’re at it, the same can be said for his Twilight counterpart Kristen Stewart).
But, this shit looks aggressive and dark. We knew the vision behind The Batman was to make it a little more gritty, but I don’t think any of us expected this….this is beyond gritty….some of it was downright creepy, and I’m 100,000,000% here for it. Give me a psychotic Paul Dano as The Riddler. Give me Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. FFS, how about that Colin Farrell transformation into The Penguin?!?! This cast fuckin’ GOES.
HARD.
Truth be told, I’ve fallen out of love with Batman – loved the Nolan trilogy, but I was so into Batman as a kid that I think I burned myself out on it as an adult. The interest just wasn’t there, but I’m feeling an excitement about this movie that I haven’t felt about anything DC in a long, long time.
I think Brittany summed up the reaction to The Batman better than anyone else, though:

People are ready to fight some bad guys. People are getting pregnant. What have you done, Battinson?
