Russell Wilson Is Pulling Away Early in the MVP Race

This could be the year Russ finally gets that MVP award.

Welcome in to the 2020 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?

Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2020 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”

2020 NFL MVP Watch: Week 3

5. Tom Brady, Buccaneers QB – Brady finally seems to be finding his rhythm in that Bucs offense, having his best game of the young season in a 28-10 victory over the Broncos. He went 25/38 for 297 yards and three touchdowns. If he and Mike Evans continue to develop their chemistry, watch out NFC.

4. Aaron Rodgers, Packers QB – Remember when Aaron Rodgers was supposed to have fallen off? His arm strength just wasn’t what it used to be and all that?!?! Yeah, don’t we look dumb now – Rodgers is really finding his way with Matt LaFleur and a corps of receivers that we all slammed prior to the season starting. You wanna talk about value? Rodgers is defining value this season.

3. Josh Allen, Bills QB – If it wasn’t for Russell Wilson playing his ass off, Allen might very well be the MVP favorite at this point in the season. Raise your hand if you had that statement before the season started. But, he seems to have taken the next step as a quarterback. In a gutsy performance holding off the Rams, Allen went 24/33 for 311 yards, four touchdowns and a pick. He also had a rushing touchdown in that game. Allen has scored 12 total touchdowns on the season, and the Bills are undefeated.

2. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs QB – Apparently, the Chiefs are the Ravens’ kryptonite if you ask Lamar Jackson. Whatever the case may be, Mahomes showed up and eviscerated a team that had previously been dominant on the season. He’s back in the MVP discussion after going 31/42 for 385 yards and four touchdowns. Mahomes was the highest rated passer this week with a passer rating of 133.5

1. Russell Wilson, Seahawks QB – Wilson already has 14 touchdowns through three games – that puts him on pace to through 74.6 touchdowns this season, which we all know is abso-fucking-lutely ridiculous. The Seahawks haven’t scored fewer than 35 points all season.

But, it’s also the context of how he’s playing. I mean, we all knew he had an accurate deep ball, but some of the throws he is making this season are legit MVP throws – dropping dimes over defenders, facing pressure, etc.. It doesn’t matter. Russ is cookin’ and nobody has been able to stop him yet. He’s poised for a monstrous season.

Against the Cowboys, Wilson went 27/40 for 315 yards and FIVE touchdowns, his second week in a row slingin’ five scores.
