Not good news out of the Tennessee Titans organization this morning. After two days with no positive tests, on the morning that should’ve seen the Titans open their facilities back up to start getting ready for the Buffalo Bills, news broke that the team had registered two more positive covid tests. Shut it all back down again – FML – now, it looks like Sunday’s Bills-Titans game could be in jeopardy.
Not only that, but now you have the blue check mark brigade, including Dianna Russini, throwing around terms like ‘forfeit’ and ‘cancel’ in reference to this game.
Per Russini’s Twitter account:
The #Titans are in a difficult position for many reasons. The #Bills play next Thursday night against the Chiefs. Moving Bills/Titans game to Monday seems impossible with this schedule. Canceling or forfeiting may be the only options.
Forfeiting should be a last resort. An ABSOLUTE last resort. Personally, I don’t even think it should be on the table. Cancel the game – keep the Bills at 4-0 and the Titans at 3-0. But, giving the Bills a win for this?
What would the Chiefs and Ravens have to say about this? Home field advantage in the AFC coming down to the result of a game that DIDN’T HAPPEN?!?! And, how about the Steelers? What would they think of this? They got rescheduled to Week 7, but the Bills get their win?
It just doesn’t make sense.
The New England Patriots seem to be in the early stages of their own outbreak – the Chiefs game was pushed to Monday because Cam Newton tested positive. But, instead of shutting it all down, they played, and just flew the people that had been in close contact with Newton on a separate plane…GENIUS MOVE.
Now, Stephon Gilmore has tested positive and there’s a photo of him HUGGING Patrick Mahomes after Monday night’s game going around.
The Las Vegas Raiders have had a player test positive after several members of their team were fined for violating covid protocols for going to a charity event and not wearing masks. This is going great, guys. Killin’ it. It’s a good thing this virus isn’t notorious for spreading like wildfire.
It just sounds like this whole situation is devolving into chaos and the NFL is about to have a BIG TIME mess on their hands. You might even be able to call it a ‘hot mess.’
Per Mark Maske of The Washington Post:
Part of the investigation by NFL and NFLPA into Titans’ compliance with protocols concerns whether or not some Tennessee players gathered away from the facility for unauthorized workouts over the past week after the Titans had been told to have no such gatherings, source says.
Okay, well if this ends up being true and the Titans brazenly broke protocol, then I hate to say it, but they deserve to have the hammer dropped on ’em. Let’s just reserve judgement until more details come out.
