Welcome back to the NFL Power Rankings on SoBros Network, which I’m still using to hopefully cash in on the SoBros Network being approved by Google News. My process is simple – I’m just looking at wins, losses, and the eye test to determine my top 10 teams in the league as we head into Week 5 of the 2020 season.
NFL POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 4 2020
1. Seattle Seahawks (4-0) – The Seahawks offense is absolutely humming behind MVP candidate (hell, I’d argue front-runner) Russell Wilson, and one of the NFL’s leading receivers, DK Metcalf. These boys are hanging 31+ on EVERYBODY. But, we’ll learn a lot more about this team with an upcoming stretch that includes games against the Cardinals twice, 49ers, Rams, and Bills. That starts after they host the Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) – That Chargers game is long behind us, and the Chiefs are the clear #1 in the AFC, having beaten the Ravens and Patriots rather soundly. Could we be heading towards a Super Bowl shootout with the Seahawks? STAY TUNED – the Chiefs host the upstart Raiders in what should be a fun contest this week.
3. Green Bay Packers (4-0) – The Packers get to their early bye at a perfect 4-0, and look like a bona fide Super Bowl contender. They have a +51 point differential that leads the NFL.
4. Buffalo Bills (4-0) – Could the Bills be the most complete team in the AFC? Maybe. Do they actually have a shot at dethroning Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs? I think so. MVP candidate Josh Allen is playing lights out, and it could be the Bills – NOT the Ravens, Colts, Titans, or Patriots – that stand the best chance of upsetting the Chiefs in the AFC.
5. Baltimore Ravens (3-1) – The Ravens got back into the win column after beating the Washington Football Team, but I’m still a tad bit concerned about the way the Chiefs beat them after mimicking the Titans game plan. This is still a really good football team that figures to have a say in how the AFC shakes down, but it’s worth asking…has Lamar Jackson been figured out?
6. Los Angeles Rams (3-1) – Now, this 3-1 Rams team looks more like the team that went to the Super Bowl two seasons ago. The NFC West looks like the best division in football, so it could prove difficult to stockpile wins as the season goes on. But, how about this Rams defense? Only the 49ers have allowed fewer points in the NFC.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) – It sure seems like Tom Brady has figured it out, and this Bucs team seems to have a lot more heart than it did a season ago. They came back to beat a game Chargers team, and were able to fend them off at the end. It looks like it’s going to be Saints-Bucs for the NFC South, and the way these two teams are playing now, it’s the Bucs’ to lose. They travel to Chicago on Thursday night.
8. Indianapolis Colts (3-1) – If this offense could ever really put it together, this would be a scary team for opposing AFC squads. As it stands, though, that Colts defense is LEGIT the #1 unit in the league. Who would’ve thought the Week 5 showdown between the Colts and Browns could have big time AFC playoff ramifications?
9. Tennessee Titans (3-0) – I still like the Titans as a top 10 team – are they playing their best football? No. But, they’ve found a way to remain unbeaten, and that counts for something. If this team gets things ironed out, watch out AFC. We’ll see how this covid debacle effects them, as they take a crack at the Bills in a PREMIER AFC showdown this week.
10. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0) – The Steelers have an aggressive, attacking defense that should keep them in a lot of games, but I don’t know how this unit is going to stack up against the Buffalos, Baltimores, and Kansas Cities of the AFC just yet. They host an Eagles team on Sunday that is scrapping to save its season and win the NFC East.
CURRENT SUPER BOWL PREDICTION
I’m going Seahawks over Bills. It may seem like an upset to have anyone other than the Chiefs coming out of the AFC right now, but I just think the Bills are a little more complete, and they have the pieces to slow down Mahomes on defense. The question was always whether or not Allen could put the points on the board to hang with ’em, and at least through four games, that question has been answered with a resounding “YUP.”
