The AJ Brown-DK Metcalf Bromance Is the Stuff Life Is Made Of

Former Ole Miss teammates AJ Brown and DK Metcalf have a friendship that all of us would be lucky to have.

In 2019, there were plenty of arguments as to who the best wide receiver was in the NFL Draft. But, a lot of those arguments centered around two Ole Miss RebelsAJ Brown and DK Metcalf. Both of whom were called the “best in the class” by various analysts.

And for good reason – I mean, just look at the photo ffs. These guys are two studs. Two absolute freak athletes. Brown landed with the Tennessee Titans, and he damn sure should’ve been named Rookie of the Year a season ago. It has been a long, long time (if ever) since the Titans have had a wide receiver that is so good at making guys miss and racking up yards after the catch. He was late to the field in 2020, dealing with an injury, but his impact was felt right away. He has five touchdowns in the last four games.

Metcalf landed with the Seattle Seahawks. Like Brown, he added a dynamic to his new receiving corps that the team just hadn’t had in a long time. In 2020, Metcalf is the 4th-leading receiver in the NFL with 680 yards. He’s an absolute freak – even drawing some praise for miraculously running down Budda Baker on an interception return against the Arizona Cardinals. Dude is drawing comparisons to Calvin Johnson. CALVIN JOHNSON! His seven touchdowns are tied for the league lead (among others, his own teammate Tyler Lockett).

There’s no two ways about it – these two are in the class that will be defining the wide receiver position in the NFL in the coming seasons.

Each guy is capable of getting on his horse and making dudes miss. It’s no wonder we’re starting to look at Ole Miss as “Wide Receiver U.” But, what really gets me isn’t necessarily what these two are doing on the field. It’s the love and respect these two show for each other in the public forum.

Metcalf came under fire a bit from Seahawks fans a few weeks ago when he tweeted “low key Titans Fan #TitanUp.” But, his boy Brown was quick to his defense, telling Seattle fans to relax, and pointing out that Metcalf was just supporting his boy. Nothin’ wrong with that.

People were hatin’ on this, but the truth is that we all wish we had a friend like this. Both ways, too! I don’t know about you guys, but I damn sure would feel appreciated to see my guy giving me support out in the open forum that is Twitter. I’d also feel appreciated to see my dude take up for me and tell the people freaking out to CHILL on my behalf.

That’s what friends are for, y’all. Get with it, come on. There’s room for everyone to eat, and there’s definitely nothing wrong with wanting to see your friends succeed!

This is the shit that life is made of. This is what we need MORE OF in 2020. Not the blind tribalism that seems to be flooding every inch of our lives. Like, players aren’t signing up to pick sides in a war. It AIN’T that serious. They can support their friends and former teammates who happened to land in different spots in the NFL.

This bromance deserves some shine.

We all need our boys sometimes, and it feels good to have a friend that will actually go to bat for you out in the public eye like that. Especially in the pressure cooker that is life in the NFL, man. These guys are scrutinized on a regular basis.

They can’t even tweet without people getting pissed. Who are we to judge if DK Metcalf wants to root on the Titans ’cause his friend plays receiver for him?

Y’all need to get right.

Anyway, a week later, Brown had to chime in on that legendary Metcalf run that prevented a touchdown:

Only one way to settle this – we gotta get a head to head between these two in the offseason.

Bros will be bros.
