If you ask me, to this day, James McAvoy STAYS one of the most underrated dudes in acting. I mean, he played like 80 different characters in Split – what more do you need to know? Maybe it’s safe to say (I don’t know, Brandon – you tell me) that McAvoy is probably best known to the masses for playing Professor X in the 2010s era X-Men movies. But, he’s a charming dude with a knack for stealing the screen when he’s on it.
A few weeks ago, reports started to surface that McAvoy would be starring opposite Claire Foy in My Son, a missing persons mystery thriller about a father whose son goes missing.
But, the twist in all of this – McAvoy ain’t even gonna get a script. It’s all improv. WHAT THE FUCK!?
Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter:
To play a man who doesn’t know what’s ahead of him, McAvoy will not be given a script or dialogue. Instead, he will improvise on set as each scene unfolds, as was the case in the original French film, with the rest of the cast and crew for the English language remake being aware of the scenes.
You mean to tell me they’re gonna ask this man to show up on set with absolutely nothing and just GO WITH IT?!?!
And the savage said YES?!?!?
Imagine the sack on James McAvoy. This man fears nothing. I won’t even make a phone call to the cable company without writing my notes down first. I can’t even go to the Waffle House without writing everyone’s orders down, and spoiler alert: I’m usually only ordering for two people. I literally can’t work without writing down a to-do list down at the beginning of EVERY WEEK. If I didn’t do that, I would never get anything done!
This is like me just showing up in Japan and expecting to become an accountant on day one. It’s just absurd.
Maybe he’s…like…actually Professor X. Have we even addressed that possibility? Maybe he’s legitimately telepathic. They asked him to do this thinking it was going to be all cool and shit, when in reality, he’s just smiling and thinking, “I already know.” Either way, you’ve got BDE or you’ve got a literal psychic. Both are equally impressive and equally cool.
Let’s up the ante and not give ANYONE a script. True art – let’s see what happens.
