On this week’s episode of The Masked Singer, two contestants from Group B were eliminated as we inch closer to the season finale. The Seahorse, Crocodile, Whatchamacallit, and Serpent all put it on the line in effort to represent Group B in the final six. Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines served as the guest judge this week and each contestant offered up clues that linked them to a previous contestant.
The Seahorse was first to perform and gave a shockingly on the nose rendition of Britney Spears‘ “….Baby One More Time.” Once again, a contestant’s clue package includes numerous nods to Nashville. The Seahorse’s spiritual advisor was featured in her package. He was in a church featuring Nashville hot chicken. The church made me think immediately of The Ryman Auditorium. Countless members of The Masked Singer universe on Twitter believes the person behind the mask is Tori Kelly, while the judges guesses included Keli Pickler, Sia, and Kesha. After all four performances were delivered, The Seahorse was spared elimination and sent straight to the final six.
The Crocodile commanded the stage next and gave a moving rendition of Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” that took the panel’s breaths away. My initial thought after his first performance was that the Crocodile is Donnie Wahlberg of NKOTB and I truly want to stick with that, but my gut is now leading me towards another successful boy bander. The clue package includes hints to Crocodile being a big softy, an avid video game player, and one visiting six continents in 100 hours. There was a playing card pyramid in the package as well and a reference to going ‘step by step.’ This week’s performance first had me leaning towards Jordan Knight, but I think it is Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys. The judges also thought it could be Jared Leto or Justin Guarini of American Idol fame.
Next to perform is the one remaining member of Group B that is obviously not a trained singer, Whatchamacallit. For the third time, Whatchamacallit went the hip-hop route and performed Terror Squad’s “Lean Back” and while giving a favorable performance of the song, it just wasn’t enough to keep him safe as he was the first of the two contestants to be unmasked this week. There were some great stabs at the identity of Whatchamacallit from the judges and in some Christmas miracle, it was Ken Jeong who came through with the correct guess. New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball was found to be the one behind the mask, leaving the panel and crowd in shock as Ken did a victory lap in delight of his correct guess.
Last to take the stage was the Serpent, and he once again did not disappoint. Before delivering a rather cool take on the Jonas Brothers “Cool” we were treated to another clue package. The Serpent’s former college roommate provided many clues including ‘Good’ mayo and peanut butter as well as countless medical clues, including an ambulance. After singing, the Serpent revealed that he had sang with one of the judges before. Ken believed Jamie Foxx is behind the mask while both Cheryl Hines and Robin Thicke believed the medical clues belong to Donald Faison of Scrubs fame. Nicole Scherzinger popped right up and declared she knew exactly who it is. She revealed that she recently performed with Mayo Clinic orthopedic surgeon Dr. Elvis Francois.
After the Seahorse is voted safe and exits the stage, we are left with 3 remaining members of Group B. The Crocodile is voted to join the Seahorse leaving both the Whatchamacallit and Serpent to go home. After Lonzo Ball is unmasked as Whatchamacallit, the Serpent is the next to be revealed. After a short pause we see that Ken had rubbed off on Nicole as she was correct in guessing Dr. Elvis.
The Seahorse and Crocodile will be watching a special Thanksgiving episode of the Masked Singer to see who joins them in the final six.
