The Croods clan is back in The Croods: A New Age and, whether they like it or not, evolution is coming. Grug (Nicolas Cage) and Ugga (Catherine Keener) are in search of more secure surroundings where them and their son Thunk (Clarke Duke), little Sandy (Kailey Crawford), Gran (Cloris Leachman), and our prehistoric teen lovers – Eep (Emma Stone) and Guy (Ryan Reynolds) – can stick together. It’s a lovely thought until Grug unexpectedly discovers Guy and Eep have a different tomorrow than the rest of them and it only includes those two.
However, Eep’s mind could change and maybe she won’t want to go anywhere else as her family plows into paradise. It has everything they could ever want or need, except they have unknowingly strolled into the home of the Bettermans – an advanced family in every imaginable way. They are the future and the Croods are the past.
Phil (Peter Dinklage) and Hope Betterman (Leslie Mann) are old friends of Guy’s parents. Their house is the cool one that has all sorts of neat things that have never been thought of before. They also want to play matchmaker for their daughter, Dawn (Kelly Marie Tran). The way Hope and Phil see it – Guy belongs with Dawn and the rest of the Croods don’t belong there at all. It doesn’t take long for tensions to rise as their differences are inarguably divisive. Yet, leave it to a battle against scamp punch monkeys and their colossal king to hand out life lessons to both families. A pack sticks together after all.
Colorful, funny, and fun, director Joel Crawford has shaped a satisfying sequel about parenting, growth, and togetherness in an uncultivated world. The voicing talent is top-notch with each of their characters dealing with different family dynamic dilemmas. There’s romance, bromance, adventure, and the Thunder Sisters to entertain audience of all ages. And believe you me, the Thunder Sisters are more than enough.
