Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is the third movie in this franchise. I’m just not sure if anything will beat the magic of the first one. This movie is good and has kept the feeling of the other two Ice Age movies. This third installment fits right in with the others. But, to say it’s just as good or better than the first is just simply not true.

After The Meltdown, things have changed for Mannie and the gang. Mannie and Ellie have settled down and are getting ready for their first baby. And Mannie wants to make sure everything is perfect and safe for when his baby arrives. Diego fears that he has lost a step or two, and been a bit too lazy for the past couple of years. Then there is Sid. Sid has caught family fever since he doesn’t feel a part of Mannie’s. So, he practically steals three eggs that are baby dinosaurs.

Well, when the mother comes looking for them, she takes her kids and Sid with her. So Mannie, Diego, Ellie, and the rest of the bunch must go to a world they have been living above this entire time. A place where dinosaurs roam and rule. And, Mannie and the rest may have a chance to save Sid and themselves if they can all get out alive. Buck, a one-eyed weasel, may be their way out.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs keeps all of its characters from the other two, and introduces a brand new world as well. Buck is a great character mainly because he gets his thrills from hunting dinosaurs. He’s the rebel in this world of dinosaurs. The animation is nice, but it’s starting to lose its touch, especially after seeing Pixar’s Up a few months ago. There is so much detail in Up and it lacks in this Ice Age.

But, the movie has a good story about starting a new family while keeping the one you already have. The movie is funny, but it’s mainly because of one character: Sid. I do not know how he gets all of the best lines, but they deliver the most laughs. Maybe it’s Sid’s personality or because of John Leguizamo voicing him. But, he is the most entertaining of all the characters.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is exactly what an Ice Age movie is supposed to be. It’s harmless fun and it’s kid-friendly. It’s a movie for the whole family to enjoy. This movie did its job.
