Tough week for Nashville and the surrounding areas – after the threat of tornadoes (and a couple actually touching down in Gladeville near the Nashville Superspeedway, and in Smyrna) on Thursday, we got hit with torrential downpours all across the mid-state, with flash flooding quickly becoming a major issue. That triggered an awful lot of storm anxiety just over a year removed from the devastating 2020 tornadoes, and brought back horrible memories of the 2010 flood. It’s as if Mother Nature really told Nashville triggering our 2020 tornado anxiety wasn’t enough…she’s gonna remind us of the 2010 flood in the same damn week.
I live out in Mount Juliet. I frequent a lot of the areas that got hit pretty hard – including the shopping center shown below. I’m out at Memo’s once a week or once every other week. I love me some Calabria. We’ve bought several pieces of furniture from S&E Furniture (including the best damn recliner I’ve ever owned). Hell, I just bought a new pet bed from the Bargain Hunt on Friday night. This is home – that’s why seeing this clip of the flooding that Calabria posted on their Instagram was all the more jarring.
Absolutely unreal footage – it’s a solemn reminder of how unforgiving and cold nature can be. My heart goes out to the small businesses effected by this. I used to work at Tuesday Morning back when it occupied the space that S&E Furniture now resides in. I can remember heavy rainstorms passing through and how it would always flood the stock room. That shopping center is apart of Mount Juliet’s history – I’m old enough to remember when it was basically the only place in town people could go shopping. The Piggly Wiggly and Mt. Juliet Video & Comics, baby! Maybe I’m the only sentimental one that holds on to memories of shopping centers…but regardless, you hate to see this happen to members of your own community.
I’ll be honest with you guys – I have no idea how specifically to help out Mount Juliet. If you know of a way (that is legitimate), feel free to reach out to me and I’ll update this piece. For ways you can help out the greater Nashville area, check out this piece from Do615.
