Welcome to the weekly Tennessee Titans draft roundup for the 2021 NFL Draft. Over the course of the next several weeks, I’ll be releasing this column once a week with my very professional journalism opinions. You’ll find everything from rumors to wild speculation to actual analysis (sometimes). Titan up!
*Let’s start this bad boy off by establishing some needs. After landing Bud Dupree in free agency, it takes a bit of the pressure off in revamping the pass rush. But, I don’t quite think they’re out of the woods there just yet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them spend an early draft pick on a pass rusher. By releasing Malcolm Butler and Adoree Jackson, the Titans created an urgent need at cornerback. Janoris Jenkins is still a solid man coverage guy, and you certainly hope that Kristian Fulton can live up to his 2nd round billing from a season ago. But, is that enough? Do the Titans feel set at the position? I certainly wouldn’t. Also, Corey Davis, Adam Humphries, and Kalif Raymond are all off the Titans roster – Davis leaves a huge hole that needs to be filled. I think I’d be content to roll with the offensive line I have – hell, Derrick Henry ran for 2,000+ yards behind the 7th and 8th offensive linemen a season ago – and not invest an early pick in the position. But, depth and a potential starter at right tackle should be added. I’d also mention tight end here – I don’t think you’re going to get a guy the caliber of Jonnu Smith in this draft unless you get Kyle Pitts, and folks….Pitts ain’t going to be there at #22. But, in a tight end class that isn’t all that great, you can afford to wait and spend a later round pick on a developmental tight end. Finally, you can never have enough good defensive linemen.
*There aren’t a lot of national guys mocking wide receivers to the Titans in the first round, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a receiver go to the Titans at #22. It’s a bigger need than a lot of those guys realize. AJ Brown is emerging as one of the best young receivers in the game. I’m a big Cameron Batson guy, and would love to see him get some reps in an expanded role, but he’s the ideal #4. I also love the Josh Reynolds signing, but he’s a solid #3. The Titans are missing that DAWG opposite Brown – we saw what Davis did in that role a season ago. They have to get another guy, dare I say, maybe someone more talented than Davis. I would be all in on a wide receiver at #22 if the talent is still there – like this odd scenario in which Jaylen Waddle falls to #22…and no, I’m not on board the Nick Westbrook-Ikhine WR2 hype train…
*Speaking of wide receivers, Brown took to Twitter to start the campaign to get former Ole Miss receiver Elijah Moore in the two-tone blue after Moore had an explosive pro day, and Taylor Lewan chimed in, picturing those two on the field together.
This would be deadly duo

I don’t hate the idea of getting the latest freak-of-nature prospect from Ole Miss in the Titans receiving corps. With the right offensive coordinator, and a creative offensive system, Moore could be the quintessential Swiss Army Knife type of piece.
*The Titans agreed to terms with safety Matthias Farley yesterday. Farley played three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before playing for the New York Jets the last couple of years. Sure, the Titans needed to beef up the safety depth, but Farley was a valuable special teams player. Between this and the signing of Ola Adeniyi, I’d say there’s a concerted effort to fortify the special teams unit, not unlike what they’ve done on defense.
*As it stands, the Titans currently have picks in the 2021 NFL Draft:
- 1st round, 22nd overall
- 2nd round, 53rd overall
- 3rd round, 85th overall
- 3rd round, 100th overall
- 4th round, 126th overall
- 5th round, 166th overall
- 6th round, 205th overall
- 6th round, 215th overall
- 7th round, 232nd overall
