We’ve spent a lot of time mulling over the choices at #22 for the Tennessee Titans, and not a whole hell of a lot of time on anything beyond that. So, before things kick off on Thursday night, I figured I’d go through some of the guys I like for the Titans, depending on which position they address in the first round. I’m looking at specifically 5th round and beyond, and I’ve labeled the prospects that the Titans have met with throughout the draft process. LFG!

Late-Round Deep Cut Targets for the Titans (2021)

  • WR Sage Surratt – The size, the production, the attitude….I absolutely love Sage Surratt….just not at wide receiver. This guy is as intriguing as it gets when you talk about a potential move to tight end, where his lack of explosiveness might not be so exposed. Hell, he can’t be any worse at the position than the rest of the projects in this tight end class.
  • G Robert Jones – Jones also happens to have plenty of experience at right tackle, too…which also happens to be a position of need for the Titans. But, most scouts project him as a guard in the NFL because of a lack of athleticism. Either way, he’s a project – but he’s got the size, build, and experience you want to create competition along the offensive line.
  • RB Jaret Patterson (met with) – The Titans always seem to come away from the draft with one of these hyper productive running backs. He’s a stout, well-balanced running back that will run through someone.
  • TE Shaun Beyer (met with) – A former receiver who is an absolute stud athlete. The problem is he doesn’t have much production at the tight end position. If you’re taking Beyer, you’re taking him with the idea that he can be coached up.
  • WR Tylan Wallace (met with) – This guy fits the mold of what J-Rob likes in a player – he’s competitive and tough, but he’s just a good all-around receiver with solid production.
  • TE Kenny Yeboah – Any tight end they’re going to be taking at this point in the draft is going to have his issues, but man, does Yeboah need some work on his blocking. You take him because he has explosive play-making potential.
  • QB Ian Book – Yeah, I said it. I love the toughness this guy plays with, and I think he’s got some underrated dynamic traits. Why not roll the dice on developing a good strong backup? At worst, he can be the guy drafted in the 7th round that we all fall in love with in May only for him to be released in July. I’m here for that #content.
  • DB Trill Williams (met with) – Williams is a developmental guy, for sure, and may be better suited as a nickel corner. But, I love his raw size and versatility as a complementary guy in the Titans secondary.
  • WR Jacob Harris (met with) – 6’5″ and 219 pounds….that’s a big hunk of wide receiver. He’s an explosive athlete who needs a lot of polish. Some have suggested moving Harris to tight end and utilizing his size and speed as a pass catcher there.
  • EDGE Max Roberts (met with) – Quick burst. Solid speed. Nice production after transferring to Boston College. Seems like a solid project opportunity.
  • LB Buddy Johnson – Props to my guy Charles Barnes for turning me on to Buddy Johnson. Johnson’s a tone-setter and good strong linebacker overall. He would be a nice addition for depth with the potential to push for a starting role if things don’t pan out with the current Titans ILBs.
  • WR Cornell Powell – I LOVE Powell as a smooth and sneakily productive wide receiver that got lost in the shuffle amidst all those legendary Clemson wide receivers of the last several years. This guy is going to produce in the NFL.
  • EDGE Patrick Jones II (met with) – Man, at one point, this dude was considered a first rounder. What happened? Projected draft round is 5th now? Yikes. Anyway, dude was productive as a pass rusher at Pitt, has the size and length you look for at the position, and looks like the prototype for the position. This is the type of guy I’m talking about when I say the Titans should take a project at edge rusher to develop into a potential 3rd or 4th guy in the rotation.
