We’ve spent a lot of time mulling over the choices at #22 for the Tennessee Titans, and not a whole hell of a lot of time on anything beyond that. So, before things kick off on Thursday night, I figured I’d go through some of the guys I like for the Titans, depending on which position they address in the first round. LFG!
Mid-Round Targets for the Tennessee Titans (2021)
In no order…
CB Ifeatu Melifonwu (Projected Round 2) – I know, I know….the second round isn’t exactly “mid-round,” but I had to tallk about Melifonwu somewhere on this website, ffs. Melifonwu can run, he can cover, he can tackle – the dude’s a complete prospect that could develop into a strong press corner. Exactly what the Titans need should they go WR in Round 1.
WR Cade Johnson (Projected Round 4) – I mean, hey…you want the Adam Humphries clone out of this draft to replace him 1:1, then you can get him in one of the later rounds…
WR Rondale Moore (Projected Round 3) – I will bust out a window in my home if the Titans take Moore in the first round. But, if you don’t address the position early enough, I’m okay with rolling the dice on him in Round 3. I get your Tyler Lockett comparisons, but that’s a little bit lofty for me. Not to mention, I’m pretty sure the term ‘hamstring injury’ still makes Titans fans shutter.
Brady Christensen (Projected Round 3) – Christensen is a 1st team All-American for his work in protecting Zach Wilson. He’s a strong, punchy tackle that could provide the Titans with just what they need.
OG Trey Smith (Projected Round 3) – Smith is a big thicc boi that can get in there and bang with the best of ’em. He would be a solid depth addition along the offensive line, with potential to develop into a solid starter as he improves upon his footwork and technique.
CB Elijah Molden (Projected Round 3) – The Titans have spent some time with Molden, who is a versatile defensive back, whose lack of elite level speed may make him a better option at safety or nickel. But, he checks all of the intangible boxes.
EDGE Ronnie Perkins (Projected Round 3) – Some don’t like his level of athleticism, or lack thereof, but Perkins was a consistent producer at Oklahoma, with a knack for getting through gaps. I like him as a potential third guy in the Titans pass rush rotation.
EDGE Joseph Ossai (Projected Round 2) – When I say the Titans could still use a prospect to develop in the pass rush rotation, this is the kind of guy I meant. He’s raw, but you can’t deny this guy’s motor and potential.
LB Nick Bolton (Projected Round 3) – He’s one of my favorite ‘dark horse’ prospects in this entire draft. I wouldn’t complain at all if Bolton ended up being the contingency plan for a potential Jayon Brown or Rashaan Evans exit. He lacks the elite athleticism you’d desire at the position, but he’s a tough physical linebacker with good instincts.
WR Josh Palmer (Projected Round 4) – A popular option among Vols fans in Tennessee, Palmer is a chain-move that put some damn good tape out there against Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II. I love him as a late-round pickup to really round out the Titans receiving corps.
CB Robert Rochell (Projected Round 3) – Rochell is a physical specimen with solid recovery speed that just needs a wee bit of refinement in his technique. I’ve seen him mocked to the Titans in several of your screenshots you post to Twitter, and I don’t hate the idea.
WR Nico Collins (Projected Round 3) – Nico Collins has the size and speed you’d look for in a complement to A.J. Brown. He needs a little polish before you can start him, but he would be an intriguing option for the Titans in Round 3 or later if they don’t address it sooner.
DT Alim McNeill (Projected Round 3) – Low center of gravity, big beefy dude – the traits he possesses would allow the Titans to just plop him on that defensive line and free up Big Jeff and Denico Autry to do their thing. If he reaches his potential, he could be a surprise out of what looks like a pretty thin DT class.
