It’s a warm summer night. We had just come from a filling dinner at Barcelona Wine Bar, and were eager to check out the rooftop bar located on top of the new Virgin Hotels Nashville: The Pool Club. Now, I had never heard of this place until my fiancé brought it up when discussing her birthday plans. Dinner at her favorite wine bar followed by a few cocktails on a rooftop. Can’t beat that, right? Hell, I’m as jaded as they come – the fact that she wanted to stay out of all the Broadway/downtown madness elated me, and I was happy to oblige. Also worth noting that this is the second piece I’ve written about the evening we spent in Nashville for her birthday. She’ll be quick to remind me that I’m not supposed to be working on date night, but since she hears my bullshit so often, it’s turned into somewhat of an undetectable droning. In other words, maybe she won’t even notice that I’m writing about date night.
So, vet move – always make reservations where you can. I reserved a table for 6:30PM on a Saturday evening. If you could see the look we saw on the hostess’ face when we mentioned that we had reservations, you’d understand the importance of making ’em. Apparently, the wait was backing up, but because we planned ahead, we were seated right away. I had the option to choose indoor and outdoor. Since it was the middle of June, I chose indoor, thinking everyone would want to beat the heat with me. Well, I was wrong. We enjoyed a round of beverages – I went with a mojito – at the table, enjoying the sounds of the DJ, and scoping out the scenery. But, seeing the deck atop the 14th floor, I was quickly outvoted for the second round. The staff was kind enough to move us outside, where we continued to enjoy our mojitos, margaritas, and old fashioneds.
With a breeze blowing, I was surprised at how comfortable the temperature was. It was absolutely bearable, so I’d cautiously and optimistically say that the heat might not be an issue. I mean…don’t wear your corduroys and sweatshirts up there in July. But, there was no real reason for me to have been as intimidated by the heat as I was. At times, I took my hat off and just let the wind caress my sweaty-ass hair. As the sun began to set, the true splendor of nature took over. We were having great conversations. The mood was happy and relaxed. The drinks were good. And, the beautiful sunset resonated within all of us – the sky was bursting with a gradient of orange, gold, pink, purple, blue, and white. With our fair city being cast in such a light, it was a breathtaking way to spend an evening. The Pool Club instantly became one of my favorite spots to take in a good golden hour – that and the hilltop at Arrington Vineyards. The stars came out as the night sky took over, and we started to make our way home, as I became too drunk to taste this chicken. The only thing that would’ve made it better is if we had a room and could jump in that pool. But, if you’re looking for somewhere new to enjoy in this city, The Pool Club at Virgin Hotels Nashville comes highly recommended by the SoBros Network crew.
Some items of note: again, MAKE RESERVATIONS. Let’s be real – the drinks weren’t cheap. I spent a couple hundred bucks on four rounds. Pretty sure Brandon bought me another two rounds – like….I’m certain I had six mojitos over the course of the four hours we were there. Also, The Pool Club does feature a full menu, so just because we only went and had drinks doesn’t mean you have to. Come hungry. Don’t wear your swimsuit unless you have a room at Virgin Hotels Nashville. The pool is for guests only. Believe me – I wanted to take my shirt off, unleash the werewolf, and get wild. I was disappointed to read this bit of information and contemplated booking a room that night JUST to get in that refreshing looking pool. I think at one point, Brandon was thinking about jumping the fence and diving in fully clothed. It looked that good. Alas – we respected the rules and were happy to sit and enjoy our drinks facing the Nashville skyline.
