Welcome in to the 2021 NFL MVP Watch, where I will be taking a look around the landscape of the MVP race in the NFL this season. This is pretty much the same thing as my Heisman Watch, sooooo…like, do I want to spend a lot of time on an intro?
Shit, I guess I will for the uninitiated – each week, I will count down the five most MVP-worthy performances of the week and offer up my reasoning for each ranking. You finish first, you get five points. Second is four, so on and so forth. I will keep the season point totals going at the bottom of the article and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points gets the 2021 SoBros Network NFL MVP “honors.”
2021 NFL MVP WATCH: WEEK 7
5. Jonathan Taylor, Colts RB – I just want to give a shout out to Taylor for just how important he’s become in that Colts offense, and how impressive that win on Sunday night was in San Francisco. Both teams were dealing with a veritable monsoon, and yet, because in large part of the Colts’ success in running the ball (Taylor had 107 yards and a touchdown), they were able to pull away from the 49ers in impressive fashion.
4. Ja’Marr Chase, Bengals WR – You post over 200 yards receiving, you get a spot on the NFL MVP Watch. That simple. But, in all seriousness, Chase is looking like he’s putting together an all-time rookie season with Joe Burrow dealing and the Bengals on top of the AFC right now. To do it against a red hot Ravens defense was even more impressive.
3. Kyler Murray, Cardinals QB – Murray got the chance to pad his stats a bit against a bad Texans team, and he did just that, going 20/28 for 261 yards and three touchdowns (with a pick). He now has 20 total touchdowns on the season. As long as he keeps scoring, he’s going to hang around in the grand MVP discussion.
2. Derrick Henry, Titans RB – Henry still leads the NFL in rushing by nearly 300 yards despite “only” posting 86 against the Kansas City Chiefs. But, here’s where I take another angle at the “value” part of the MVP award – the Chiefs had two to three extra guys at the line of scrimmage or threatening the line of scrimmage on what felt like every other play. That’s how much respect and attention Henry demands. So, the Titans were able to take advantage of that and go to AJ Brown in 1:1 situations. But, it’s all because of the threat of Henry taking over a game. He is one of the most feared players in the NFL, and while he wasn’t able to punch in a rushing touchdown on Sunday, he was able to throw one to MyCole Pruitt to score the first Titans points of the day. He’s not going anywhere in the MVP…*ahem* MVKing….discussion.
1. Tom Brady, Buccaneers QB – Is Tom Brady playing the best football of his entire 50-year career? Maybe. At the very least, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask. This dude is going scorched Earth on the NFL this season – scoring 22 total touchdowns already on the season (21 passing, one rushing). That puts him on pace to hang 53.4 on the board in 2021. That is bat shit crazy. He added four more to his total on Sunday, going 20/36 for 211 yards and four touchdowns against the struggling Bears. He also happened to throw his 600th career touchdown on Sunday:

And speaking of going scorched Earth, did you guys catch Brady totally shitting on every defensive player to ever play the game?
Tom Brady just shredded every defensive player to ever play the game of football.
