There’s a ton of sports content on SoBros Network…a ton of entertainment content…a ton of humor content…but one thing that has always had a special place in my heart is the show that Rooster and I do titled Phone It In. It adds depth to what SoBros Network offers readers and listeners by taking on topics that are well out of our usual content range. I think the audience appreciates that, as they’ve made it our 2nd most downloaded podcast per episode on SoBros Network this year. The whole vision behind the show was to dive into stuff that you don’t usually see covered on SoBros Network, stuff that Rooster and I are interested in…stuff that we’d talk about or…more accurately…that she’d teach me about sitting around at the day jobs we’ve worked together. What makes the whole thing go is the sense of humor shared in introducing people to topics they might not have looked up on their own. I’m proud of this show, and I’m proud of the work that Rooster puts in to get us prepared for it. So, with another year in the books, let’s take a look back at our episodes from 2021.
The Year That Was on Phone It In, 2021
Ep. 19: The Psychology of Cults – link – Rooster and Stoney dive into the wide array of cults that exist in the world, how they operate, and how they recruit new members on the latest episode of Phone It In.
Ep. 20: Centralia, Pennsylvania – link – “Rooster and Stoney dive into the history of the small Pennsylvania town that has been burning underground slowly for decades now. This is Phone It In on Centralia!”
Ep. 21: Spongebob Squarepants and Mental Illness – link – “Rooster and Stoney complain about sweating for a bit before diving into a lengthy discussion on Spongebob Squarepants, where the show ranks among other Nicktoons, and the parallels that the show has with mental illness, including dissecting a fan theory on how each character in the show represents a different disorder.”
Ep. 22: Oak Ridge, Tennessee – link – “Rooster and Stoney dive back into the topic of Tennessee history with a look at the creation of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the Manhattan Project, the effects of mercury pollution, and an oddly confusing tangent on construction.”
Ep. 23: MK-Ultra – link – “Stoney Keeley and Rooster dive into MK-Ultra on this episode. From mind control to shady government entities, this conspiracy theory has a little bit of it all, and the implications of its success are terrifying to think about. Sounds fun, huh?”
Ep. 24: The Warrens – link – “Rooster and Stoney are kicking off Spooky Season by looking some of the stories surrounding the Warrens, who served as the inspiration for The Conjuring movies and more. This is a fun and weird one, folks.”
Ep. 25: Creepy Reddit Stories, Pt. 2 – link – “Rooster and Stoney keep the Halloween tradition alive on Phone It In by sharing creepy, supposedly true, stories they’ve found from the bowels of the internet, known as Reddit.”
Ep. 26: Cahokia – link – “Rooster and Stoney dive into the history of the lost city of Cahokia, located just outside of St. Louis near the Mississippi River. Once an epicenter of Mississippian culture, multiple factors ultimately led to Cahokia being abandoned. This one is a fascinating look at how cities evolved, and eventually strained, hundreds of years ago in parallel fashion to how they grow today.”
Ep. 27: Krampus – link – “Rooster and Stoney get together to absolutely bastardize the legend of Krampus on this festive holiday episode of Phone It In. Also, the two ask the important questions: who would win in a fight between Bigfoot and Krampus? And, do people go to furry cons dressed as Krampus?”
