Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
Who is winning the streaming platform rn
— Moon Knigha (@Xenoxands) January 27, 2022
What else is in Burlington coat factory
Answer:
What kind of streaming are we talking about here? SoBros Network uses Streamyard and it’s fantastic. As far as the streaming services go, I have no idea who’s winning right now. It’s like we don’t have two or three really good streaming services anymore – we have about a dozen mediocre ones and we just have to piece the content we want together from ’em all. I’ll let you know in the offseason, ’cause right now, all I’ve been watching is football, football, and more football.
Fun fact: as a kid, I thought Burlington Coat Factory sucked! I thought they literally just sold coats. So, when we had to go there to do some Christmas shopping one year, I pitched a fit about it. Didn’t want to go in at all. Then, when I went in, I found a little end cap of Ninja Turtles toys and immediately changed my mind about the store. I have had respect for Burlington Coat Factory ever since.
Question:
Do you have a favorite holiday outside of the big dogs? I always get excited for Groundhogs Day which I feel it never gets the respect it deserves.
— Patrick Criswell (@PatCrizzy) January 27, 2022
Answer:
St. Patrick’s Day immediately comes to mind, but it’s weird – growing up here in Gladeville, Tennessee, St. Patrick’s Day was never really a big deal. I mean, the extent of our “celebrating” was pretty much wearing green to school that day so that no one would pinch us. But, when I started dating Aura and was taught the ways of the Northeast, I realized what a big deal St. Patrick’s Day really is. So, while I wouldn’t consider it a “big holiday” because of my upbringing, I feel like there’s a strong contingency of people who would consider it a big holiday. I just love the food – give me some corned beef and cabbage, scotch eggs, Guinness. Let’s sit in an Irish pub and get smashed. And, it’s during that time of the year when everything begins to thaw and we’re getting those first few glimpses of spring. Just love it.
I also think Labor Day deserves some love – it’s always been a restful holiday for me after the busy summer schedule slows down.
Question:
What’s your take on this Neil Young/Spotify ordeal.
— brett (@thebrettclark) January 27, 2022
Answer:
Well, first of all, Young is going to miss out on those dozens of dollars he was making from Spotify…
Y’know…it’s his prerogative to stand up for what he believes in. It’s Spotify’s prerogative to say bye bye. But, it’s really a lose-lose type of situation because I feel like it’s an oversimplification of the problem, and it does little to solve the root issue. People are talking Joe Rogan vs. Neil Young this week, and they missed the entire point here. Creators with massive platforms have an obligation to make fact vs. opinion clear, consumers have an obligation to think for themselves, and we can’t start treating opinions like facts. I, personally, believe all of those things to be true. There’s so much nuance in the conversation that people just want to ignore and fight about – but, if you’re asking me straight up, I think I kinda dig what Young is doing here more than I side with Rogan, even if I can understand why some of my more conservative friends feel this type of behavior is scary. I’m a fan of Rogan’s show honestly – I listen fairly regularly and find some of his guests to be quite interesting. But, I never turn off an episode thinking I’ve learned some profound truth. That’s where I think Rogan can get a little reckless in the whole ‘fact vs. opinion’ debate.
Also, I try to stray from stuff like this on the blog, but my DMs are always open to anyone.
Question, from Olivia on Instagram:
Would you rather have a stuffy nose or sore throat?
Answer:
Give me a sore throat eight days a week. I absolutely hate having a stuffy nose. I can at least drink some tea and keep a cough drop in my mouth at all times for a sore throat, but when the nasal passages stay blocked, I’m just miserable.
Question:
What other creative ways are there for celebs not to get sidechicks pregnant outside of condom hot sauce?
— Captain 2-3 (@MC_Cash75) January 27, 2022
Answer:
The hot sauce condom method is RUTHLESS. My goodness. The things that celebrities have to think about…it’s just absurd. I think the most practical way for celebrities to not get their side chicks pregnant is to simply not have side chicks.
Question, from Ricky on Instagram:
Why did Tannehill force that pass?
Answer:
I can’t tell if Ricky is really asking, or if he’s just eager to talk shit, but as a credible journalist, I have to address the hard-hitting questions I’m asked, so here goes…
Which one, Ricky?
The three interceptions that Tannehill threw were all incredibly dumb forced throws. The one to Jessie Bates to start the game was doomed from a terribly predictable play design. For one, the Titans outsmarted themselves….they were thinking the Bengals would expect a handoff to Derrick Henry to start the game, but that was so predictable that the Bengals were ready for them to take a shot off of play action trying to be unpredictable, and Bates said as much. For another, that design gave the safety absolutely NO ONE to think about on the other side of the formation. Bates made a hell of an athletic play to close and come down with the ball, but it never should’ve been thrown.
The one to Mike Hilton was another combination of a play that the Bengals were ready for because it had been put on tape a million times this season and a throw that probably just shouldn’t have been made. You can see Hilton take a wide angle on his rush because he knew Tannehill was going to throw it. If you’re Tannehill, you have to recognize that and get out of the throw. Finally, I have no fucking clue what he was thinking on the interception that ended the game, forcing the ball into triple coverage towards Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Why Julio Jones wasn’t even on the field for that play is beyond me. Don’t you want your best play-makers out there in those situations? Why wouldn’t you take a shot at AJ Brown, who was on fire during that game? Folks have pointed out that Anthony Firkser was wide open underneath on that play, but I don’t know that he’s getting that first down even if he does catch the ball, and he had just dropped a pass so maybe Tannehill didn’t quite trust him in that spot. I don’t know. But, Tannehill showed a tendency to be aggressive in those situations all season long. It reared its ugly head at the worst possible time for the Titans.
I wrote about this whole situation earlier in the week.
Question, from Will on Facebook:
Who going to win the rumble?
Answer:
Will, I honestly have no idea. I haven’t been this out of touch with what’s going on in WWE in a LONG time. But, it’s still the Royal Rumble, and the Royal Rumble is appointment television, right?! I hope it’s Johnny Knoxville.
Question:
General life and Titans question.
— Ryan Watson (@RyanOnBroadway) January 27, 2022
Answer:
It’s been a rough week. As for ‘general life,’ I would answer with ‘people.’
As for the Titans, I would say that we learned a very valuable lesson about the current iteration of this team last weekend. When the chips are down in the playoffs, I don’t know that the Titans are well-equipped to manufacture magic when they need it with a quarterback who makes too many aggressive throws and a predictable offense with a play-caller that fails to mask the quarterback’s deficiencies. That is something that must be corrected moving
