The 25th annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival took place virtually from April 7-10. Our resident film critic, Brandon Vick, caught 15 flicks over the course of the festival. Last week, he and I got together to dive into his thoughts on each film in a two-part series on The Vick’s Flicks Podcast. You can catch Part 2 embedded below, but here’s a little preview of his thoughts on each doc. For more on Full Frame, check out their website here.

The 2022 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Part 2

  • I Didn’t See You Theresynopsis – “I appreciate it, but there wasn’t a connection that I feel like should have been there when watching it.”
  • Skate Dreamssynopsis – “The overall message about women’s skateboarding, it’s popularity, and those that busted through that glass ceiling to make it what it is today, and to now be apart of the Olympics…it definitely says something.”
  • The Exilessynopsis – “There’s definitely a sense of inspiration because they’ve never stopped fighting for justice.”
  • Unseen Skiessynopsis – “He’s capturing places and things that none of us even know anything about and probably can’t even see…but they’re tracking us.
  • Chilly & Millysynopsis – “It’s really a love letter to his parents and especially the hardships they’ve gone through, the love they had for each other, and also documenting his father’s struggles in his final days. The animation aspect of it makes it stand out.”
  • Aftershocksynopsis – “It’s just amazing…the change they’re looking for, and they’re fighting for it each day, but the fact of just how pathetic the system is when someone is pregnant, and how scary it is for a black woman to give birth and to know that if she chooses one hospital over another, she may not walk out.”
  • The Martha Mitchell Effect synopsis – “She was as outspoken as you can possibly get, and think about it in that time…that was really unheard of.”
  • Mijasynopsis – “In the heart of this, it’s really about doing what you love.”
  • Navalnysynopsis – “Harrowing is a perfect way of describing this documentary – I’m going to say…this is probably the best of the fest.”
