They say time travel isn’t possible, but I’m not so staunchly convinced.
It just doesn’t sit right with me when there’s so much of human existence that we don’t understand.
A synapse fires and suddenly we’re in another moment.
We’ve folded back on our own timeline with nothing more than a trigger.

I feel the humidity of a Tennessee sunset and I’m back at CMA Fest in 2014,
The sun burning my skin and the booze putting my liver through the ringer.
Streams of orange, pink, and purple splatter what was moments ago the bluest sky you’d ever seen.
The echo of an amp bouncing around – with nothing in our brains, good times were in our hearts.
How did I get back here if time travel isn’t real?

I feel cool wind, refreshing to the touch, blowing in the open window of a 1996 Toyota Corolla.
Suddenly, it’s the fall of 2006.
The real world was close enough to see coming, but far enough away to keep us carefree.
A full moon shines down over a bonfire, and I recognize faces that I haven’t seen in years.
The sound of ghost stories and cans of candy corn Jones Soda rustling around can be heard.
How did I get back here if time travel isn’t real?

I take one bite of the bier cabbage at Brewhaus in Chattanooga and my brain is flooded with memories of the Scenic City.
The views from atop Lookout Mountain play across the projector of my mind’s eye.
I’m transported to 2017, stopping for a bite late at night on our way to Florida, just an hour before snow flurries forced to stay at a flea bitten motel in nowhere, Georgia.
How did I get back here if time travel isn’t real?

I smell blackberries and before I can object, I’m picking ‘em in the field out back in the summer time.
Mama wants ‘em to bake a blackberry cobbler.
I can feel the thick air condensing on my body, and I can feel the warmth of the sun on my face.
I hear the rush of the wind through the trees, and know the peace of a free childhood.
How did I get back here if time travel isn’t real?

What I am convinced of? That our memories are powerful enough to fold space-time in on itself.
We need not a Christopher Nolan flick to tell us.
It’s right there for us to feel for ourselves.
So, find it, treasure it, and hold onto it.
