There were times when I was a kid when I thought about running away into the forest and trying to find a nice family of deer to take me in and raise me. It wasn’t that I had a bad childhood or anything – please don’t go say mean things to my mother. She did a great job. I just always, for whatever reason, thought that that was a possibility for quite a grand adventure. I had a wild imagination as a kid, and it was fueled by shit like seeing Batboy on the cover of Weekly World News when we went grocery shopping down at the HG Hill years ago.

Nonetheless, I was fascinated by shit like The Jungle Book, and I always thought, “man, if I could just get out there and meet the right deer, imagine the possibilities…” That never happened, though. Sadly. Now, I’m a 35-going-on-36 year old man that plays in spreadsheets for a living and writes on the internet for a purpose. But, these feelings of wonder (they were stupid and weird for a kid, I’ll admit) were stirred up within me when our very own Cryptid Queen, Rooster, and I sat down to record our latest episode of Phone It In.

Wait…no…that’s not to say that I wanted to go live with wolves after we did that show…I’m just saying that it reminded me of those feelings from my childhood. Anyway, we’re talking about feral children on this month’s episode – from defining what it means to be feral to providing a few examples of famous feral children throughout history. Some of them are fun…I dare say, folkloric. The more recent ones? Not so much. It’s less likely in 2022 that you’re going to have the mystery…the legend…surrounding some of these stories of kids emerging from the woods having been raised by wolves. It’s more likely that you’ll find this condition the direct results of years of abuse and neglect. But, the episode as a whole was a ton of fun. Give us a shot.
