Imagine Thinking You’re so Tough You Can Stand Down an Avalanche

Staring an avalanche in the face is a bold strategy.

As usual, this particular post of a viral clip seen on Twitter comes with the caveat that we can’t always believe everything we see on the internet. I can’t vouch for how accurate any of this is, but if we operated under complete skepticism and cynicism, I’d never be able to write about anything I see on the internet. So, we have to put at least a little bit of faith in some things, and if we get got, oh well. We get got. Anyway, in the latest reminder that Mother Nature can be a cold and frigid bitch, we have a clip of an avalanche barreling down a mountain and heading straight for someone holding a camera and filming it.

All time tough guy move to see this happening and just stand there and take it. I don’t know if this person just thought it wasn’t going to reach them or if they knew it and just accepted fate, but there’s no way I would’ve been able to do this and still have clean drawers around my waist. As soon as I realized that that avalanche wasn’t going to stop, I would’ve made whatever peace I needed to in my heart. The “oh shit” moment for me was that first real crash over the mountaintop that sent debris cascading like a tidal wave. That’s when I knew that this thing had enough force to reach whoever was holding the camera.

And, like the person who shared this video said, where was there to run? At that point, you just know you’re in a one on one situation with a force of nature. There’s no escaping it – so you might as well just try to stand it down. I admire this filmmaker for that.
