Drunk Observations from Titans-Bucs on Saturday

Stoney Keeley weighs in on Titans-Bucs despite being too drunk to taste this chicken.

I wasn’t going to write about Saturday’s game between the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from Nissan Stadium. Hell, I didn’t even know if I was going to get to watch the game! We were out at a cabin in the middle of the east Tennessee hills for the 2022 SoBros Network Content Retreat, producing shows and videos left and right. I didn’t know if we’d be done in time, but we ended up wrapping the whole thing up at about 4PM on Saturday. Plenty of time to get things set up for the game, and well….since I do write about the Titans, I figured I probably should pay close attention so that I could write some sort of game recap or write about one of the major angles that caught me. The only problem is that I was a little too buzzed to keep any accurate notes. I accidentally poured what was essentially two solid pints of straight gin (that reminds me – check out Trouble Spirits). Forgive me – I was feeling the relief of getting 38 podcasts and videos recorded in three days. I wanted to take a load off and relax, baby…plain and simple! The scenery was beautiful and Did I lean into that a little too hard? Yes. Thankfully, I realized I was doing it and stopped after two. Good thing I sobered up for our midnight showing of Trollhunter. Anyway, here are my main takeaways from the game.

  • Sean Atkins simply will not stop. I learned this weekend that he is one of the most determined individuals in my social circle now. We got the video feed up on the tube thanks to his YouTube TV account, but when we couldn’t get the audio to connect, I think he spent the entire first half of the game trying to figure out what was going on. Ultimately, we had Steven McCash log into his YouTube TV account and sync the audio to a bluetooth speaker. Important analysis, I know.
  • It’s the preseason for everyone I guess – not only did the feed go down for everyone, but they had a hard time keeping up with the accurate down and distance, and at one point, Randy Bullock kicked a 30-point field goal. Also worth noting that the rest of the room probably got tired of me audibly saying, “preseason for everyone, I guess...”
  • If I had to boil the game down to one big thing, it would be the impressive performance by the defense. That front seven looked really impressive – sure, later in the game, when they were down to the 3rd and 4th team guys, they were gashed a little bit. But, the guys who will be playing this season looked dominant.
  • I would like to publicly apologize for the number of times I asked someone in the room why Leonard Fournette was playing in the preseason.
  • Man, I think it might be time to start really worrying about the offensive line. I was one of those “let’s wait and see what we got” types not too long ago. Just reading the tea leaves, it felt like this coaching staff was super high on Dillon Radunz, and I thought “must be for good reason.” But, that performance on Saturday, really made me wonder if it was time to start feeling a slight sense of panic. I’ll give our buddy Zach at Football & Other F Words credit for this idea because I saw it and immediately thought, “yeah, might be better off to just let NPF take his lumps and develop a little sooner than they initially thought they’d need him.
  • Wide receiver Kyle Philips continues to impress, and my bold prediction is that he makes the final roster.
  • Steven McCash makes a damn good burger. I’m not going to give away his trade secrets, but it is by far the best burger I’ve ever had cooked by friend or family member at a cookout in my life.
  • Not only did I think we saw progress from Malik Willis, but I thought we saw significant progress from Malik Willis. He still had the dynamic, electric play-making ability on display with another sidearm throw that didn’t make much sense. But, he also looked a little more decisive at times, and was going through his reads a bit more actively. I am beginning to think that he just may be the better option to back up Ryan Tannehill in 2022.
  • I like the way Hassan Haskins runs – he only mustered 39 yards on 12 carries (3.3 per), but I think they have something there with him as he adjusts to the NFL game. He may not have the elite traits, but he has a style that fits with the Titans identity like a pig in shit. I believe that’s how the saying goes.
  • As Mike Vrabel stood bent over, with his hands on his knees, staring at the ground, I asked “why is Vrabel already in midseason Vrabel stance mode?
  • Ryan Stonehouse runs like a tractor trailer.
  • Spin cycle: How’s this for a conspiracy theory? Maybe they already know what they have in Treylon Burks and are not using him in any way that would tip their hand for the regular season. Maybe they told him to show up to camp out of shape. Maybe they even told him to catch asthma as a kid. Things that make you think.
  • I have found that if you miss a game or drink too much to remember anything on accident, James Foster is the best Twitter follow to get caught up on some of the real Xs and Os stuff.
  • At one point I kept repeating, “RUN IT BACK” because I could’ve sworn Cody Hollister was wide open on a play and wanted to see if Willis just missed him. It made no sense, and I think I was beginning to make my friends nervous.
