Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
@SoBrosNetwork Got another question for the mailbag (use this for September 2). Which was better: 2016 World Series Game 7 or 2017 World Series Game 5? Cubs my top sports love so I'm biased…
— Armchair Prudence (@armchairprudent) August 26, 2022
Answer:
Man, that 2017 Game 5 may have been the most entertaining baseball game I ever saw, but I think you have to factor the stakes into this discussion and that’s where 2016 just blows 2017 away. I distinctly remember the pressure building in that 10th inning of a winner take all Game 7 for a Cubs team that had waited for so damn long to get back to the World Series….that sort of historical context makes this one a pretty easy decision for me. It’s 2016’s Game 7 all the way.
Question, from Roxanne on Instagram:
Would you rather be a butterfly or a wasp?
Answer:
I think I already have too much wasp energy within me right now. Just buzzing around stinging shit left and right – I’m dealing with some real aggression issues right now, so I think I’m going to lean butterfly. I need to slow down a little bit, catch my breath, and reset my emotional bearings. Butterflies just seem so peaceful. They seem to move at a slower pace than a wasp, and they don’t have stingers out ready to pounce at a moment’s notice. I’m team butterfly.
Question:
If you could change one law to whatever you want, what would it be?
Answer:
Oh, shit – this is a tough one. Do I play this seriously? Or, do I have some fun with it? If I play it seriously, we’re going to be here all day….and it’s the SoBros Mailbag, chock full of TGIF energy anyway, so let’s have some fun. Let’s make prostitution legal (and safe, but again…we’re trying to keep it light today…). Society is a powder keg of angst and frustration – we need more people fuckin’ and we need the people that are already fuckin’ to be justly paid for it. Team sex work over here, LFG.
Question, from Reno on Instagram:
Is Malik Willis a rip off Vince Young or a rip off Michael Vick?
Answer:
I don’t know that Malik Willis is a rip-off of either of those guys! The knock on VY was always that he didn’t study in the film room, and his issues were from the neck up. I don’t know how accurate that is, but I can say that that is certainly not the case with Willis, who has done nothing but improve under center, going through progressions, and working on his passing game. He might not be as far along as Michael Vick was early on in his career, but Willis can get there. I think he’s a great player to have around in the situation he’s in where he doesn’t have to worry about starting for a long time. If he continues to develop at this rate, he’s going to be an electric young quarterback in the NFL.
Question, from Tyler on Instagram:
How ’bout them Vols?
Answer:
They looked amazing against Ball State, and I think they’re going to cream Pitt next weekend. 569 yards of total offense? Hendon Hooker with four total touchdowns? Man, I know it was a weak Ball State squad, but as far as fine-tuning for the “real” schedule goes, you couldn’t have asked for a better start. Most importantly, it was good to see that they didn’t play down to their competition, which has been an issue in the past. This is going to be a damn good football team, and a damn fun offense to watch.
Keep the questions coming – catch y’all next week!
