The crisp fall air is around us; you can see women as far as your eyes will go draped in flannel and wearing Uggs and there is pumpkin spice flavored everything on the shelves of your favorite grocery store. These things might mean a certain thing to some but to others it signals that Spooky Season is here.
It is that glorious time of year where many stalk every closed Big Box retailer in their town hoping to see a Spirit Halloween or Halloween Express ‘coming soon’ sign. It’s that time where you spend countless hours scoring the internet for local pumpkin patches, haunted hayrides, and most importantly, haunted houses. If you are anything like me, you absolutely love horror films and can not wait to start planning your ‘scary movie playlist.’
Practically anything you want to watch is available on streaming services or playing at a local movie theater. The classics are always the easiest to find whether it be The Exorcist, Halloween, Friday the 13th or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. What is lost on a lot of people who only watch the classics or other mainstream Hollywood horror movies is that there is a world of horror out there for them to discover.
I have compiled a list of some of my favorite foreign horror films to help those dive into a world they may not be that familiar with. 31 Days of Foreign Films includes some of the biggest names in foreign horror that have since been remade by Hollywood like Ringu and Let the Right One In but mostly incudes some of the best fairly unknown films of the last 20 years. The list includes films from numerous sub-genres of the horror world. There is zombie, psychological, slasher, and found footage films among the list but that barely touches the service. Many if not most of the movies on the list can be found on a streaming service somewhere. There is a movie for everyone on the list so grab your popcorn, favorite cozy blanket, turn the lights off, and enjoy the 31 Days of Foreign Films.
