Can you believe it? It’s already time for the 2022 Iron Bowl. It seems like only yesterday, we were brimming with excitement about the college football season starting. Now, BOOM – we blinked and it’s Thanksgiving and time for another Iron Bowl. Crazy how time flies.
The Alabama Crimson Tide. The Auburn Tigers. In my book, there’s no rivalry more heated, there’s no rivalry more personal, and there’s no rivalry that’s better in all of college football. You can keep your Michigan-Ohio State. I’ll take Alabama-Auburn eight days a week. Seeing as how we are the official unofficial kings of the drinking game (trademark pending), I figured it was our responsibility to the great fan bases on both sides of this rivalry to bring back the Iron Bowl drinking game for 2022.
The season hasn’t exactly gone how either of these teams wanted it to go, but that means very different things for Alabama and Auburn. For the Tide, this was expected to be a juggernaut steamrolling its way to another College Football Playoff. Instead, they’ve been a little uncharacteristically sluggish on offense, seemingly void of the real big play threats they’ve had in the passing game in years past. They enter this game with two losses that both could’ve easily been wins. Crazy how the dominos fall sometimes. For Auburn, there was dysfunction from the jump. Bryan Harsin was fired well into the season after failing to get this program back on track. Still, with the talent and experience on this Tigers roster, they started 2022 just outside the Top 25, with many analysts believing they had a shot to be halfway decent. It’s been bad – like…their 5-6 could easily be 3-8 kind of bad. So, sights will likely be set towards the future for both of these programs, but all of that can wait until another Iron Bowl is in the books.
The 2022 Iron Bowl is set to kick off at 2:30PM CST. ESPN’s match-up predictor gives the Tide a 94.5% chance to win this game. Sports books currently have the line hovering at around Alabama -21.5 with an over/under set to 49. I’m tellin’ ya – you throw the record books out for this one. Don’t be surprised if some wonky shit happens, and the Tigers cover that number (also, don’t be surprised if Alabama wins this one 42-9).
Iron Bowl Drinking Game 2022
Take a drink if/when…
- someone mentions how “personal” this rivalry is.
- someone mentions that Alabama leads the series history with 47 Iron Bowl wins
- you hear the names Roy Upchurch, Chris Davis, Brodie Croyle (and/or “the sack game”), or Van Tiffin
- someone mentions the turbulent year Auburn has had. Bonus drink if they name Bryan Harsin.
- anyone brings up the “NFL talent” in this game
- Cadillac Williams’ career at Auburn is mentioned
- anyone brings up this game first being played in Birmingham
- Bryce Young is discussed as a Heisman candidate.
- Robby Ashford throws a touchdown
- the Alabama offense gets a play of 20 yards or more.
- Lane Kiffin is mentioned in any capacity.
- Jahmyr Gibbs rushes for 10 yards. Yes, this means drink every time Gibbs amasses 10 yards.
- someone from either team registers a sack. Take a 2nd drink if it’s anyone other than Will Anderson that does it.
- Tank Bigsby passes the 93-yard mark in the game – that would put him at the thousand-yard mark.
- Cameron Latu catches a pass.
- A player crosses 100 yards of offense. Do this for every player that does it…even quarterbacks
- Owen Pappoe gets a tackle
- either team gets ahead by 10 – yes, this means take a drink every time either team gets ahead by 10.
- someone mentions that Auburn is battling for bowl eligibility.
- there’s a turnover.
Take a shot if/when…
- they show the Kick Six from 2013.
- they show the Metchie touchdown in quadruple overtime to win the Iron Bowl in 2021.
- Nick Saban throws his headset.
- Auburn scores 20.
- Alabama scores 50.
- the OVER hits (55.5).
As usual, stay safe out there and drink responsibly, folks. If you drink, don’t drive, do the watermelon crawl. Roll Tide.
