What started as an idea five years ago finally came to fruition last Tuesday night on the main SoBros Network social media channels. I had always wanted to throw some combination of what we do into an hour-long format as a way to entertain our regulars and maybe introduce ourselves to some new folks who might dig how we do what we do. Full transparency – I went through like eight different versions of this thing…from full on SNL style live show to straight up podcast live stream with guests and all. Where we landed was somewhere in between and I couldn’t be happier about that.
So, after initially writing down “Christmas special” on the vision board for 2017, it materialized in 2022 in a way that exceeded what I even had planned for the show. It ended up being about an hour and 20 minutes, when what I had written would’ve been about an hour. Skits were cut (maybe next time), and skits were added on the spot, and we really did just kind of go with the flow. That shit lit my creative spirit on fire (in a good way). I loved worked on this more than I’ve loved working on anything else for SoBros Network in quite some time.
I started filming bits for this thing all the way back in June. I didn’t wrap up until the Thursday before the special aired. It was an undertaking – one that I’m not necessarily sure I saw coming. There were a lot of late nights spent editing video footage (there’s like 30 minutes of footage sitting out there that was cut from the show) and trying my damnedest to mix the sound in a way that it didn’t sound too bad going from mics to no mics. I’m saying it’s my first film – I’m a filmmaker now. Can someone set up an IMDB page for me?
In all seriousness, I’m so proud of this show. I do feel like the spirit of what SoBros Network is and does was able to shine brightly in this special. I’m grateful for all of the SoBros (and Pat from Quick Sixer!), who weren’t really sure of what this thing was going to be, but trusted me enough to just go with it and film stuff with me. It turned out better than I had even hoped for. So, if you missed the live stream, grab yourself a blanket, pour up some egg nog, and settle in to watch it. Can’t wait for the sequel 😉
