Season 2 of Drinking With…, the movie podcast where we take a walk to the bar with movies as they approach the legal drinking age right here in the United States of America, is in the books, and boy, what a season it was. After a successful first season, we managed to pack in 18 new episodes to the catalog in 2022! Of course, our pool of movies to choose from was deep, and while we didn’t have a Christmas movie to cover this year, we had a wealth of horror efforts that led to us releasing a new one each week in October. Steven McCash’s work on this show never ceases to amaze me, and it’s always one of the most fun shows to record here on SoBros Network. So, pour a cocktail and join me as I relive all of the episodes we put out during what was a great year for this promising podcast.

DRINKING WITH…A RETROSPECTIVE ON MOVIES TURNING 21 THIS YEAR

Ep. 14: Training Day link – Denzel Washington delivers one of my personal favorite performances I’ve ever seen, in a classic that is always cool to revisit.

Ep. 15: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back link – You might notice a trend on Season 2 of Drinking With…, and that’s how our feelings about these raunchy comedies have changed over time. We start that with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, which absolutely devastated me to realize didn’t hold up all that well.

Ep. 16: Black Hawk Down link – I can’t believe I had never seen this before watching it to prep for this show. It instantly became one of my favorite wartime movies.

Ep. 17: Summer Catch link – Is it total cringe? Maybe. But, there’s still a reason I watch this every year when the weather starts to warm up. It captures the essence of summer just about as well as any other flick!

Ep. 18: Super Troopers link – Sophomoric, childish, juvenile…whatever you want to call it. Super Troopers is what it is. I laughed a lot less than when I watched this as a teenager, but found that its humor wasn’t completely lost on me either.

Ep. 19: Shrek link – Okay, one of the most iconic animated franchises in film history is now old enough to drink? Fuck, I feel old.

Ep. 20: Legally Blonde link – Elle Woods is unstoppable, much like we were at the opportunity to record a podcast about this movie.

Ep. 21: Saving Silverman link – Did I ever in my life think this was actually a good movie? I don’t know. But, I still found it charming while acknowledging how bad it was.

Ep. 22: Ocean’s Eleven link – I hadn’t watched this one in forever before we decided to fire it up for this show, and man, does it age well. George Clooney is the coolest motherfucker in the world in 2001.

Ep. 23: Y Tu Mamá También link – I never watched it even though I have Ryan’s DVD copy of it still sitting in my office. He sat in on this one with McCash.

Ep. 24: Hannibal link – I had no idea that people hated this movie so much. I saw it for the first time in prepping for this podcast and went in completely blind to the reviews. I actually loved it, and found it to be a fun atmospheric Spooky Season watch!

Ep. 25: Joy Ride link – It’s fun to look back and see this run of Spooky Season episodes we did because it reminds me of the SoBros Content Retreat – also, how in the hell has it been four months since we disappeared to a cabin in the woods for a few days?! Anyway, Joy Ride holds up surprisingly well.

Ep. 26: Jeepers Creepers link – I saw this “cult classic” for the first time this year, and man, why did all of my friends think this was such a cool movie back in the day?

Ep. 27: Donnie Darko link – Still haven’t seen it, but sources I trust love it, so I bought the DVD on my last trip to Danger Zone Video. This was a fun episode as Ryan and Brittany joined McCash instead of our usual group.

Ep. 28: Thir13en Ghosts link – A tradition unlike any other here at SoBros Network – the Drinking With… Halloween live stream!

Ep. 29: Save the Last Dance link – I have no idea why I ever thought this was a good movie, but it was so bad that it made me think I need to stop telling people that movies I haven’t watched since I was 15 are good. I swear I remembered this one being better.

Ep. 30: Serendipity – link – No Christmas movies in 2001! Who knew?!?! The closest we got was Serendipity, which has plenty of holiday-esque charm, and of course, we can’t go a season without a John Cusack movie here on Drinking With…. I’ll say that this episode made me think I need to add Serendipity into the holiday season rotation – I forgot how much I enjoyed this one.

Ep. 31: The Best of the Rest, 2001 – link – Our annual recap of the year that was and some of the other films of the year that we didn’t previously take deep dives into.
