Alright, folks – the big day is upon us. It’s my favorite day on the football calendar: NFL Conference Championship Sunday. I know…some of you are probably thinking, “well what about Super Bowl Sunday?” Don’t love it. It’s the same reason I prefer Thanksgiving to Christmas. You still have the magic of the holidays, but you still have something to look forward to. Much like after Christmas, all you have to look forward to is the winter blues, once the Super Bowl is over with, football season is done….dead! So, just let me enjoy my traditions, okay?

Nonetheless, we have what looks like an all-timer of a championship Sunday on deck, at least on paper. It seems like every year, there’s at least one underdog story that makes it to this day, but this year, I truly believe the four best teams in the NFL are left standing. We have four alpha wolves on the block ready to duke it out for primal supremacy. Okay, maybe that’s a bit graphic and dramatic, but forgive me for letting my emotions take ahold of me. I just love this Sunday so much.

Kicking off the action will be the NFC Championship, as the Philadelphia Eagles play host to the San Francisco 49ers at 2PM CST. These could be the two most complete teams in the NFL (though I’ll hear your arguments for Cincy), and it’s hard to really find a weakness on either roster. Both head coaches are in the running for ‘Coach of the Year,’ and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say we could look back on this game as the de facto Super Bowl. ESPN’s match-up predictor gives the Eagles a 64.8% chance of winning this game, and the sports books think it’s going to be a close one, as the Eagles are currently 2.5-point favorites. I can only imagine that the home field advantage is going to play into this one big time. While the 49ers are 5-3 on the road, they’re 1-1 on trips to the East coast, including a throttling of Carolina and a two-touchdown loss to the 7-10 Falcons. Both of these teams want to ground and pound with a punishing run game and a stout defensive front – it’s the irresistible force meeting the immovable object, folks. Big meaty men slappin’ meat!

In our night cap, if you will, the Kansas City Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship, set to kick off at 5:30 CST. For heavyweight title fight that the NFC Championship looks to be, it’s the AFC Championship that has the high drama. You have Patrick Mahomes dealing with an apparent injury. He rallied back into the Jags game to help his team win that one in dramatic fashion. On the other side, if you have Joe Burrow-led Bengals squad that is 3-0 against the Chiefs in their last three meetings. Questions of whether or not this Bengals team just flat out has Andy Reid‘s number are starting to circulate, so you know Kansas City is going to want to get that monkey off of their collective backs. The Bengals are being underrated for their physicality. The Chiefs are being underrated for their ability to run the ball when they need to. Don’t be surprised if this one doesn’t end up being a bit of a street fight like the NFC Championship figures to be, too. But, the Bengals are playing complete football right now, and they’re playing it lights out. ESPN’s match-up predictor favors the Chiefs at 65.5%, but oddsmakers see it differently, as the Bengals are currently 1.5-point favorites right now.

It’s a football holiday, folks! Get those spreads lined up – cook your wings, order your pizzas, or whatever the football food of choice is in your household. Crack open some cold ones. Pour up some cocktails. Let’s have some fun!

NFC Championship: 49ers at Eagles

Take a drink if/when…

  • DeMeco Ryans is mentioned as a potential head coaching candidate.
  • Christian McCaffrey catches a pass.
  • Jalen Hurts tucks the ball and runs.
  • Brock Purdy is mentioned as a 7th round pick. Double drink if they call him “Mr. Irrelevant.” Triple drink if they allude to the QB situation for the 49ers and how they don’t know what they’re going to do with him and Trey Lance.
  • AJ Brown catches a pass.
  • Nick Sirianni and/or Kyle Shanahan are mentioned as a ‘Coach of the Year’ candidate.
  • Someone scores a touchdown.
  • Either team registers a sack or a takeaway.

Take a shot if/when…

  • The Eagles try to block the 49ers pass rush with one single, solitary running back.
  • Nick Sirianni is busted saying “fuck” on camera again. Take a drink any time someone makes a joke about Sirianni “knowing what he’s doing.”

AFC Championship: Bengals at Chiefs

Take a drink if/when…

  • The “magic” of Mahomes is discussed. Double drink if they refer to his “gutsy” performance coming back into the game against the Jags last week.
  • Ja’Marr Chase catches a pass.
  • Travis Kelce catches a pass.
  • Someone mentions the Bengals’ “revamped offensive line.” Double drink if they refer to last year’s struggles protecting Burrow.
  • They mention that Burrow is 3-0 against the Chiefs.
  • Eli Apple is shown taunting or otherwise dancing on the graves of a Chiefs player regardless of whether he actually made the play or not.
  • Someone scores a touchdown.
  • Either team registers a sack or a takeaway.

Take a shot if/when…

  • Joe Burrow actually engineers a 4th quarter comeback.
  • Mahomes gets the monkey off his back and beats the Bengals.
  • Hell, take a shot at the end of the night. There’s only one more football game left ’til next season. It’s a special occasion.

Stay safe. Stay responsible. Remember – if you drink, don’t drive. Do the watermelon crawl.
